Default Able bodied folks parking in handicap spots

This all happened this weekend. I'm going to start saying sh$t to people. If they are truly handicapped then i'll apologize profusely.

1. 35-40ish black female loading groceries in the back of her suburban at Marc's. No problem doing that or climbing into this behmoth.

2. 45ish white couple at Lowes. He and his wife were loading shelving in the back of his pickup truck. He was dirty and looked like he was working all day on his house. Probably on worker's comp too.

3. 50ish white/Jewish couple in the parking lot of Costco in a new 6 series Bimmer. Both very able bodied. I saw them walk around Costco for an hour.

4. 30ish black couple with 3 kids in the parking lot of City BBQ. Keep in mind that not only were they not handicapped, he was muscular. The funny thing is that there were two empty parking spaces closer to the door than the actual handicapped spaces.

WTF? Scot?

IBS/Crohn's can qualify you for plates in some states.

Ex-gf's dad had it. Perfectly normal guy, except for the Crohn's.

Even then, I'm sure that there a whole bunch of medical conditions that people magically have when it comes time to get a tag/plate.

Man, this has been one of my biggest problems with people for years. Even after my motorcycle accident last year when I was on crutches for 2 months I parked in a regualr space. When I see an able bodied person parking in a handicaped spot I want to shoot them in the head.

I know a guy who has his grandma's expired handicap mirror hanging placard. He uses it whenever he misses the bus for school. The school does have a substantial number of handicap spots though.

well, I park in handicapped spots, but look able-bodied.

I have total kidney failure and nerve damage in my legs, so my walking IS imparied. I recently dislocated my knees so now I need a cane at the least.

I totally understand why you get pissed over this...but imagine NEEDING the spot only to see some obese lady take the last spot!

After I hurt myself, I would need the motorized carts at Wal-Mart, but guess what? They are always checked out by fat ladies who can walk just fine. So, my slow ass has to hang off the back of a cart and use it as a walker.

I'm with you on the whole peeve, but from the "other side." Problem is the placards are not hard to get at all, and most using them only have a family member (like a dead grandma) that needed one. The placards are good for like 5 years so once out there they stay out there. The red ones are 1 year only and must be renewed by a doc (the blue ones don't). IMO, in order to get a blue one you should be messed up. Also, the red ones should be good for 90 days, not a year.

Hmm I should tell that to the girl in my office. She has Crohn's and has been going through HELL the last 2 years between Crohn's/Cancer/Kidney Stones.

But since she looks perfectly healthy aside from all that she might not be up for that.

I also hate when i see perfectly healthy people take a Handicap parking space. I actually tend to speak LOUDER as i pass them and say "WOW Real Handicap.. as you run inside the store".

In my state all you need is a note from the doctor saying you have ANY condition that makes it harder for you to get to the door than the average person. Docs hand them out like candy. Many of them are temporary because of surgery or something but people keep them forever because nobody looks at the expiration date.

I have seen so many people that drive around with one in the glove box, (probably because someone else in the family qualifies) and park in the spot, fumble around for the tag, and hang it on the mirror.

Lame.

Oh yeah, this is an excellent pet peeve. It is tricky to say for sure it is or is not valid on a case-by-case. But I know for a fact some people use 'em when they're not even carrying grandma around with 'em.

Extra pet peeve -- when they don't seem to need extra space to exit their vehicle and there are plenty of normal spots around. WTF are they doing pulling into a handicap spot that someone might REALLY need?!

What really scares the hell out of me is that if someone is too handicapped to walk/wheelchair the extra 15 feet to the mall entrance... should they really be piloting a 4,000 pound chunk of steel down the road at 50 mph?
