Afghan Taliban Warn U.S. Strikes Would Sow Hatred
Read the book "The Curve of Binding Energy" by John McPhee. Its a biography of Ted Taylor (one of the guys who made "the bomb" go from the size of a truck to 6" dia x 22" long (the smallest one we've build--unclassified))
In it he discusses what would happen if someone set of a small, terrorist-type nuclear weapon INSIDE the WTC (the weapon would be roughly the size of a garbage can). I believe his numbers were "Over several hundred thousand people" not including radiation induced deaths (of which there would be many, as far away as massachusetts and maine)
The level of know-how it takes to build a nuke is not that high, we so far have been lucky.
This disaster feels like a punch in the gut to everyone, but we do need to get tough, and get tough fast. They were able to save many lives because the towers took roughly an hour to collapse. If a small, improvised nuclear weapon was used, there would be no warning at all. The collapse would be initiated immediately, and the blast and debris would take out many of the surrounding buildings.
If we don't stop terrorism, its only going to get worse.
I do not want to hear people suggest indiscriminantly bombing civilians, because thats just revenge talking. We need good old fashioned mafia-style revenge (my sicilian side talking), you kill everyone that helped, but the bad guys kids you leave alone.
Or in the words of Sean Connery in "The Untouchables"
He pulls a knife, you pull a gun
He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue.
Or, to put it in the bluntest fashion possible,
We know were terrorist camps are, we photograph them daily, we know roughly where the money and equipment comes from, and we know which governments support them.
These governments have been telling us for years that terrorists operating out of their country is "The US's problem, after all, they don't attack their own country" We need to deliver a message and make an example to let every other country know that terrorism is a blight on the entire world, and terrorists in their countries is our problem yes, but now its THEIR problem. Its a simple message, stop supporting it, start fighting it, or you are part of the problem and thus eliminating you IS the solution.
Forget about nuking people, the US has the best equipped, trained, and funded conventional military on the planet, look at Desert Storm, Iraq had the 6th largest military on earth, and it took one month and 4 days to eliminate is ability to make war. While it doesn't take that to kill a terrorist cell (its tough to target a single person with a 2000lb bomb), we should use what we paid for and (pardon my euphemism) B1tchslap anyone and anything associated with ANY terrorist group that has hurt us, or has vowed to. To quote one of my friends at an un-named defense analysis company "Prepare to reap the whirlwind, Motherf@#$er"
On that note, I go back to work, protecting the future

It is not enough to kill the 50 or so directly responsible. The United States MUST responded in such a fashion so as to shock and outrage the rest of the world with our capacity for violence.
The rest of the world must be made to know the United States will raise the stakes far higher than anyone else can
You may not want to kill these people, but those folks dancing in the streets of Palestine want you dead.
We should attack all the counties that have ever been involved in attacking Americans. Now is the time to settle ALL scores. Syria, Iraq, Iran, Palestine all of them. Kill them all.
The rest of the world must be made to fear the United States. That is why only nuclear weapons will do.

I believe there will still be a problem. The government was looking for this guy when he bombed the Embassies in Africa in 1998 too, but were unable to find him. It's a very large world out there. Establish a 51st state and get some of our own oil so we can lower gas prices.
Yes, but neither side is 100% good nor 100% evil. Nothing is black and white in this world.
Black is those pictures 6 speed posted.
You have to cut out cancer.
Do you think that if we drop the bomb in the Middle East that the pictures will not look as horrific as these? I'm not saying we should be passive, but we need to realize that our possible retaliation will yield results much more greusome than the pictures that 6speed posted.
DJ,
As for pictures from the middle east....I don't need to see any of the aftermath.
I'm not saying we should use nuclear systems, as this would be more suited to propane and conventional weapon systems. There is no reason to destroy the resources of the country. They are very valuable.
Just take out the enemy....evil.
John McCain said, I hope their god has mercy because we won't. I can only hope that our military powers concur.

Attack - I don't really see how this is at all an issue.
Even if you guys are into the whole eye for eye b/s, how can anyone be certain that LA will not be attacked in 2-3 weeks time?
There are lots of CRAZY Muslim people IN US.

realthing,
You have a very good point.
I wouldnt be a bit suprised if another attack happens in the coming weeks/days.
The "crazy" muslim people in the US have to go too. As I understand it, there are muslims that don't believe in terrorism.
