I DO believe in the death sentence. I do NOT believe in Cable TV in Prison.

Does anyone buy that kind of statement? Where is a breakdown of these astronomical costs? For each execution, the guards, the preacher, and everyone else involved is already being paid for being at work, so I can only think of a couple of additional expenses - say, $20 for a last meal, and maybe $10 worth of electricity. That's a grand total of $30. Where did the other $23, 999,970 go?

BTW. 44 executions over 25 years works out at 1.76 executions a year. Hardly equatable to the murder rate in Florida, is it?

Re: SFDukie's relpy. If these numbers are correct (and we don't know they are), then the system is in far worse shape than anyone can imagine. If it's due to appeal after appeal after appeal that runs up the tally then there's something terribly wrong. A lethal dose of Sodium Pent. costs only a few bucks, a bullet in the head even less, a rope can be used over and over again. I'm sure you could find a family member or friend of a victim willing to push the syringe or pull the trigger for free. As I said before, it's NOT a matter of deterent, nor is it a matter of revenge, nor is it a matter of not bringing back the victim, it's a matter of SATISFACTION!

Agree. Eye for an Eye makes perfect sence to me. If you belive it's ok for you to take another life, than you must belive its ok for another to take yours. This isnt always the case, but it kinda makes sence if you're looking from the outside.

i stongly dissagree, its a shame that we decide to kill another man for killing some one else, heck when one person keyed my car i would have loved for a judge to say that i may damage something of personal value of the other guys, but thats against the law, in this REPUBLIC of ours the eye for an eye rule only applies in the most extreme of cases, which is sad as those that choose to put a person to death are the ones that represent us, yet i fail to belive that i would stoop as low as the killers and take another mans life as those who gave the decision to put him to death.
