Default am I wrong?

friday was my wife's birthday. I had planned a suprise get together and invited a total of 8 people including my wife and myself for the get together. I rented and paid for a limo and we all went out to eat and then headed downtown to a nice bar/club to drink the night away. A few days before, I told everyone to bring cash when we went out because at the bar/club we would all be on one tab. Keep in mind, 2 of the guys that came along I have known for over 10 years. At the end of the night our tab at the club was $600, not including tip. After everyone had "thrown in" on the tab, the total everyone contributed was about $225, leaving me with my dick in my hand for the rest of the tab, plus a nice tip. I ended up dropping $200 in cash and another $300 on my credit card at the club. The next day I was a little upset and I was unhappy and felt that these people cheapened the evening by seemingly only showing up for a free night and not for my wife. This is not about the money, but really feels like a slap in the face and has seriously caused me to re-evaluate my friendship with these two guys. On top of everything, nobody was really grateful or thanked me the whole evening. I am a very generous person, but now I am very soured by this incident..thoughts?

I would be soured by it too. Anytime I go out with my friends, I pitch in more money than needed. I hate people that go out and are cheap about it.

But maybe they were too drunk to really think about it.

- Limo, cost me $400..got a good deal on it
- Dinner, spent $100 on me and my wife
- club, cost me $500...total tab was about $700, so everyone else only threw in a total of $200.

math still not right:
total tab = 400 + 100 + 700 = 1200.
if divided up equally, each person is $150. Why was there $200 contributed if only 2 persons did not pay their fair share? Sounds like only 1.5 person paid their fair share.

npham seemed to get the jist of the initial post just fine. Forget the limo, I planned on paying for that.

total people drinking: 8
total tab including tip: a little more than $700
total money contributed by all others except for me: $200
total I paid for tab: $500

- Like I said, the money wasnt the problem, the other people in our party werent really trying to help with the tab either...I am not one to beg people to pay their own fuking tab.

IMO, for something as expensive as that, it's in your best interest to give ALL the invitees an estimate before hand of how much you think the night will cost.

If you think it's going to run $150/person for one evening, you should tell them. Heck, tell them it'll be $200 for the night, and you'll figure it out later. But that way, you can avoid people who "didn't know" it was going to be so costly.

Either way, it's a sucky situation.

I have been in a similar situation. A friend of mine organized an outing for his brothers birthday.. 9 or 10 of us went to a nice club, reserved a table and ordered several bottles. The tab at the end of the night was around $1200. It turned out that three of the people ended up footing a majority of the bill with some people putting in no money (I gave everything I had, around $100 ). These three were a bit upset and politely asked everyone to contribute a fair share the next day since everyone had partaken evenly in the festivities. No one had a problem with and everyone gladly forked over the funds. This is what friends do. Your friends should give you money for drinks. I could understand not contributing to the limo or even dinner, but not for the drinks.
