we arent young kids, late 20's and professional jobs, I own/run a business. I made my rookie mistakes in college. Collecting money before hand is for college kids, not me.
ur strategy is flawed and u are paying the price.
u cant just invite a bunch of people, tell them a open tab is running, let them drink 200 dollars worth of booze, and then hit them with the bill. not very classy.
if ur gonna throw a party, expect to pay for the majority of it.

When it came time to pay the tab and there wasn't even close to enough money, I personally would've called everyone's attention to it. It's not about begging people to pay their fair share - it's about people being respectful enough of me to pay up. Maybe you don't know some of the people as well as you thought you did? I can't imagine any of my real friends pulling something like that.
For the most part, whenever I go out with friends (for a special occasion or otherwise), we very rarely run a group tab. Buying rounds can also work out unevenly, but it's less of a shock come the end of the evening.
