you can get good weed here all day long. It would be a nice change to be able to light up a walking down the street. But c'mon guys, you can only smoke so much, especially the good shit. The cool thing about amsterdam is shrooms and absinthe if that's your thing, not my cup of tea.

If I went to amsterdam, I'd look forward to the clubs and all the random sex.

You can't light up walking down the street, you have to be in a coffeeshop. And I don't see why people are always excited about the hookers there, that's gross as hell. I'm going with a hot friend of mine anyways so I'm not going to need infected hookers.

On both counts. I smoked in the streets and in vondelpark with my partner and we both did a double take at how hot some of the girls were in the eastern euro quarter so don't go making out they're all gross. The african quarter is gross and full of diseases because they're not legal and hence don't get the testing like the regulars. You see its legal and supported by the government so they do provide testing as a community service but there's obviously reason for concern if you're dumb enough not to strap up.

Open your mind a little and you'll enjoy yourself alot more in places like this and you may even learn to kick your negative spin. You see you don't have to race a car to enjoy looking at one if you catch me and the whole culture in amsterdam is an attraction in itself but if you're judgemental and cynical then its not the place for you.

OP, I stayed down on Marnixstraat and it was great. Leidesplein has a lot of great nightlife and nothing is far away whether you're walking or riding. Amsterdam was up there in my top 5 spots and I visited around 17 countries and countless cities last year. And no I'm not a smoker nor did I sleep with hookers.

re the steep steps, Amsterdam used to charge taxes based on the buildings frontage so they built their places up instead of out and as a result you'll find most of their stairways are dangerously steep but funny as hell when you're carrying your pack up them.

Must be different to the stuff that I had because the first shot blew my head off

Shrooms are sold in what's called smart shops which are basically like tobacconists but with the added product.

Weed is as easy to get as beer and the people are very cool about it. As I said I'm not a smoker so I was a bit intimidated at first but when you tell the guy behind the bar they'll look after you and make sure you get on easy.

I did a red-light district tour and the girl told me that you can smoke in the street but a cop might ask you to put it out if they see you.

Hard drugs are still very much illegal over there but you will get offered them. Don't say no just keep walking and they'll leave you alone.

I was planning on going this may, but am going to Czech Republic instead.
Amsterdam>czech IMO but both are amazing. Just don't follow the hype of Prague its a beautiful city that's fallen victim to the commercialism that the tourism industry brought.

If you're determined to go to czech go south to cesky krumlov it still has the innocent beauty prague was known for but hasn't sold out to the same level.

But if its eastern europe then based on my travel buddies stories I'd recommend Hvaar, Croatia for its beautiful beaches and beautiful women and very cheap living/drinking.

watever you do, just don't go with ur girlfriend, i had no choice cuz she took me when i went to visit her in london. yah no coffee shop for me, i did the take pics of the girls in the red light district but instead of getting my camera smashed, i got my head smacked.

bought a crap load of tiny cute clogs for friends and family, stayed at a hotel, i have no idea how people can go up and down this things when they're high. sex museum was lame as hell, she trew up a lil, eek.

make sure when ur at schipol airport, u get ur train tickets in2 town centre from the kiosk and not on the train or they charge you 5x more for penalty for trying to sneak on, they don't do that in london, you pay the same rate. 3 days is long enough, it is pretty tiny, i was more into the architecture and the buildings since i wasn't allowed to do anything else

I enjoyed venice more, try to go if u can, easyjet has cheap fares.

I spent 3 months in Europe for work last year, and took 3 trips to Amsterdam during that time. I'm a big stoner and my coffeeshop suggestions would be as follows:

Dampkring:
Huge selection of weed and hash here. I'd come here and pick up a few grams of different stuff before going anywhere else.

Blue Bird:
Awesome weed pound cake here. Having 1-2 with a smoke did me good.

Chocolata:
Delicious hash chocolates. It's close to Central Station so it's a good place to grab a few chocolates to consume before the ride/flight home.

Barney's Breakfast Bar, Hunter's Bar:
These are cafe coffeeshops, meaning they serve booze along with weed and hash (regular coffeeshops don't serve booze). Nice places to go if you want to chill and have a drink with your joint. There are a number of cafe coffeeshops but I only personally visited these two. Both are nice. Barney's is much more popular though.

Bulldog's:
Big coffeeshop chain that some folks will tell you to steer clear of. I'd have to agree that their weed selection is pretty limited, but they have a decent "space" tea, milk shake, and hot chocolate. My girlfriend isn't big on smoking but enjoyed the weed drinks here. There's a Bulldog's in the Red Light District that sells the usual weed and hash as well as shrooms.

Which reminds me, I also tried a couple different kinds of shrooms while I was out there. They have a nice selection, including some kinds that I haven't seen here in the USA before (well at least not in California). One kind that I tried was the Hawaiians. Those were very nice -- clean come up and come down, awesome visuals, and no nausea (one of my main problems with shrooms). You can just walk into "smart shops" and buy shrooms; they have them boxed up with dosage instructions. These are fresh shrooms also, not the dry stuff usually sold by street dealers. I also saw one smart shop that was selling fresh peyote cacti (didn't try it though). Note, though, that shrooms should be purchased early. Coffeeshops are usually open late, but smart shops tend to close relatively early.

wish i woulda seen this before i went! as it stands, i never got around to buying any since i wasn't feeling all there from all the smoking/drinking we did. oh well. i think i read somewhere that dried mushrooms are illegal there, but not when they're still fresh.

I don't have much to add here, but yes, it was fun going "pot shopping". I also finally learned to roll a GIGANTOR spliff.

Good stuff. . . and all I had was a 10-hour layover!
