I would get the Pinscher but I really like German Shepards. My step dad loves German Shepards with a passion. He had a black one called Sombra, which spanish for Shadow. Mean as hell.

Shift...honestly, I would get the german shepard...great dogs and if you love them enough the shedding doesn't matter...you can always just get them shaved. It's nice and cool for them anyway!

Get them shaved?! Funny thing is that one of my uncles employee breeds pedigree dobermans, and I would probably land one for free! With the Shepherd I would be paying any where from 750-2000! I want to devote as much time as I can to this dog. But I have to manage everything else as well. The doberman seems like a good choice due to the shedding issue, but as Ovadalimit posted they need more strictness. Sooo confused.

Heres what im thinking right now.

Doberman:

+: Free, Less Hair, Smaller in size, and looks sooo cool
- : More fierce, needs more time

German Shepherd:

+: Less aggressive, more intelligent, better with kids/strangers
- : Expensive (when compared to free), shedding, larger size

I don't really know what to tell you. Out of the two, I'd still pick a shepard. Plus, you won't have to worry about guests going "OMG...is it gonna try to eat me?"

I deal with that a lot...you know, having a pitt and all!

Can you guess which one I would recommend? This GS is my second one, female. My first was a male. Plusses and minuses to both. Loves kids, good protection (just the size makes people think twice.) and very intelligent. Can't comment on your other choice as I have never had one.
My sister is a professional breeder. (Bend Oregon) She has about half a dozen puppies left from the latest batch. PM me if you want more info.

We are on our 4th Lab and have found through much scientific study that they do not over eat but they are over fed.

Dobermans have got a bad rap from movies and idiots watching Magnum PI over the years. They are not aggressive dogs by nature. All the ones I know are big lap dogs. In fact, I don't even know anyone who has had an "aggressive" incident with a Doberman yet people seem to perpetuate the myth.

Labrador. If you like big dogs that are good with people and love to play this is your dog. They are unlikely to attack other people, but their loud deep bark and large size (70-100 lb adult size male) will keep strangers away from your home. They love to cuddle (girls love them). They are smart and easy to train. They love to swim. They love to play games with you. They are tottaly into pleasing you. They shed, but not alot. They only over eat because they are overfed too often. If you diet control then they won't overeat. Mine is 6 months and 60 lbs and so muscular you can almost not believe he's a lab. He barks at strangers, but will walk up to the 2 year old across the street and bow his head down so she can pet him. Additionally, they are really smart. My dog knows the names of his individual toys and many other things I can tell him and he obeys (usually).
