We have three German Shepherds right now, ages almost 11 years, almost 5 years and 10 weeks. My screen name, Kyras, was the name of another male we had, who I loved dearly, but he died in December 1999. You know which dog I would recommend. I trained all of the dogs. I start on Thursday night with the newest, Rogue, in puppy class. When he's older I will take him through basic obedience class. From then on they are great family dogs. You teach them from puppies that you are the alpha dog. You do have to pick a good one to begin with. They have different personalities, just like kids. Sometime they can be shy as puppies and stay whimpy their whole lives. I have a friend who has two and one is whimpy. They can turn into fear bitters. Our dogs are part of our family and we take them everywhere with us in our motorhome.
Rogue is the cutest one we've had yet! He's also the easiest. I put him to bed and he sleeps 12 hours. (I have him in a dog crate/cage next to my bed at night.)
The Breeder that we got STARR from breeds his dogs for size and temperament. She has proved to be one of the sweetest dogs I have ever had. On weekends when we take her for a walk in Downtown Ann Arbor she is approached by children all the time wanting to pet her. We have no problems, she really likes kids, some of the parents are put off because of her size though.
BTW STARR is a White German Shepherd. She will be 14 months old in 10 days. She's about 90# and still needs to fill out.
