Any audiophiles here?

I worked for various high end companies ( Madrigal ( Mark Levinson ), Theta Digital, and ( pro - side ) Apogee Electronics ). I spend less time listening these days but still like it. There's some hype ( we often wrote our own reviews for stereophile ).

Most people have little clue how good audio can sound. Even good components need a good room and setup. Also, you get better a listening when you spend hours in the soundroom comparing products or, in the design phase, different capacitors etc. Our former golden ear guy could reliably distinguish blindly the difference between the 3.5" cd 'jitter reducer' ( a weight that went on top of the cd ) and the 5" one. This was on a system costing over 200K in the 90's. You wouldn't be able to notice subleties like that or cable differences on a 5-10K system probably. The cable stuff has the most hype but even digital cables do affect sonics. Most poeple don't understand jitter.

I hooked up a tiny 'desktop' amp I made with one op-amp & 4 FETs to some $160K Wilson speakers tee hee.

yeah Bose & B&0 is stupidness.

I suppose I fall into the category of "Audiophile".

But I think of myself more as a music lover. My wife and I go to as many concerts as possible and music has been a big part of our life.

I am mainly into Tubes (SET), big horns, vinyl etc.

I have been through many, many systems before settling down. I mainly listen to jam band type rock/funk and jazz.

B&O are pricey but some of their stuff is top notch
See, and I think B&O is as bad as Bose.

I can't really call my an Audiphile but I do like HT/Audio equipment. I used to be more hardcore into it but then I got married had a kid and realized I rarely cranked the receiver up high. My son didn't care for the loud music.

We are building a new house and it will have alot of equipment but not too much high end stuff. I did spurge on a 60" Pioneer Elite Signature though.

[QUOTE=BearNVa,Feb 24 2009, 09:21 AM] Well to the experts... just what would you put into an S2000 without spending over 5 grand. This is basically what YOU would put in an S2000 under these conditions:

1) Headunit, No CD player just IPOD
2) 4 speakers
3) NO SUBWOOFER
4) an amp if needed

must have moderate bass and crystal clear sound to that of a pin drop.

How would you proceed?
What brands would you use?
What connections would you use? Fiber,

you do have a point, however I was just curious as to what the people that "know" sound would do and how they would accomplish this if given this task. There are only 2 auto audio systems that come to mind, Alpine and Nakamichi, for high end which may not be high end at all. This was just for shits and giggles to see how it would be handled.

Okay, you may kill me because I did have a system in my S2000.

They make the sound more enjoyable but it really wasn't worth the money.

I had a Soundstream VanGogh Amp
Infinity 60.5 fronts
Infinity 50.5 rears in Spods
Alpine and Sony head units.

I still have the amp and fronts if you are interested

Long time Head-Fi member here. Oddly, I can't say I've ever been into car audio much.
