Any college professors here?
So I have an assignment due in one of my classes, and I need to ask a college professor about his/her research habits. It will take less than 5 mins of your time, just shoot me a pm or post here and I'll pm you my questions. Thanks
I'm sure Magician will chime in here eventually.
I faintly remember him saying he bought a book on Algebraic Topology?
So, what I'm getting at is that most professors probably just buy as many books as possible in the area they are interested in, and learn from there. Then they make their own conclusions and hypothesis from those books, or other manual research. Why do you think when you walk into a professor's office, that there are so many books lining the walls? :-P

Here's the assignment:
Contact a professor in another academic program, and ask about his or her research activities. Find out if that person is conducting research through a grant, for journal publication, for a sponsor, or perhaps as an expert witness.

When your economics prof gives the entire class the same topic, he/she has (usually) 100+ college/university students doing research for him. Add to that your work cited and your prof has all they need.
Thats why you never write anything really really well in college, because your prof is going to change it slightly and put his name on it and receive awards. I've seen it happen numerous times before.

They conduct research through their students... everyone knows that.

College Professors are just people who couldn't get actual jobs in whatever field they teach. There are some exceptions, but they are rare.

^^That is a terrible thing to say. I see them as people who like to teach but dont want to make 30grand a year. Professors make $$$$. Make no mistake.
I've had two professors who were good- both of them were business owners who only taught one or two classes a week because they enjoyed it. I've never had/met a good full-time professor.
