Any college professors here?

well this is my first semester at san francisco state university and DAMN they are sooooooooooo liberal it is insane (i really dont care what my video production teacher thinks about Bush), ive never had classes before where they basically make fun of anyone who isnt a democrat all the time...it kinda sucks actually im really dissapointed, and NONE of my classes have ANYTHING to do with politics. I kind of regret going here sometimes...

sorry kinda off topic, but ya I know what it means to have a college professor that frankly thinks they know everything about politics

vent over

I'm sure Magician will chime in here eventually.

I faintly remember him saying he bought a book on Algebraic Topology?

So, what I'm getting at is that most professors probably just buy as many books as possible in the area they are interested in, and learn from there. Then they make their own conclusions and hypothesis from those books, or other manual research. Why do you think when you walk into a professor's office, that there are so many books lining the walls? :-P
So, I'm a magician and you're a physic.

I'd say that your appraisal of professors' research habits is pretty much dead on.

We like libraries, too: they're cheap.

College Professors are just people who couldn't get actual jobs in whatever field they teach. There are some exceptions, but they are rare.
That's a cynical - and probably grossly inaccurate - assessment.

It's not a terrible thing to say.
Yes, it is.

Most college professors don't give a rat's @ss about "teaching". They push their personal view of a subject onto their students like it's absolute truth, act like they have unquestioned authority . . . .
Have you studied anything remotely close to enough professors to be able to formulate a meaningful conclusion about "most" of them?

Most college professors . . . rarely "teach" in the same sense HS teachers do.
Of course they don't teach in the same sense that high school teachers do. Their students are supposed to be more mature than high school students.

I've had two professors who were good- both of them were business owners who only taught one or two classes a week because they enjoyed it. I've never had/met a good full-time professor.
And you consider that a statistically significant sample?

I've had many excellent professors - some of them part-time, some full-time, some full-time with outside businesses.

Your sample is biased and your conclusion wrong.
