Besides putting it on your licence you should consider having it incorporated into your advanced directive for health care.

putting it on a license means NOTHING in most states.

the buck stops with your next of kin. if they say no, that's it. TELL YOUR FAMILY AND/OR SPOUSE YOU WISH TO DONATE to remove any confusion. Too many willing donors' organs are wasted because parents/siblings/spouses/children object. So many lost lives.

BTW, I'm still waiting for a kidney. I'm considering going to a 5/6 match and under 40 years old.

You can sign up on this website:Organ Donor Listing It's a national list and it will also give you other information.

To all of you who are willing to sign up THANK YOU! You might want to consider a living will also, as this will put your wishes in writing. When the time comes for the decision to be made emotions overcome the moment and families may not do as you wish them to.

Myth: Minorities should refuse to donate because organ distribution discriminates by race.

Fact: Organs are matched by factors, including blood and tissue typing, which can vary by race. Patients are more likely to find matches among donors of their same race or ethnicity.
one observation:
a large percentage of people with renal failure are blacks with B blood types.

On a percentage basis, B blood types (mostly black) are way, way less likely to be donors. This is why blacks often wait 3x or longer than whites or other races for kidneys.

sad, but it fuels the myth.

From my experience on the Transplant Surgery Service, I can say that many more Whites get living donors than Blacks. So, that longer wait my simply be due to waiting for a cadavaric kidney i.e. does that stat include all comers or just those waiting for a cadaveric kidney?

Can you sell a kidney?

(By the way, I'm serious. Not that I'd actually sell it, but just didn't know if you could do that sort of thing.)

If so, what do you think the price would be?

It's not ethical. Legitimate users won't buy organs.
