I've got a Fisher Tiburon and a older Caloi that rides around in the race trailer. Nothing fancy but they do what I want them to. I was riding 10 to 15 miles a day before Hurricane Ivan messed up all the places I liked to ride.

I've been thinking about getting a bike for some time now.

I am leaning towards a touring/road bike. I've ridden road and mtn bikes before.

Mainly I will use it for commuting, but I want the ability to use it for short-triathlons (planning on participating in my school's next year)I am not "into" triathlons or bike racing per se so that would be a secondary use.

Bikes I've looked at online, more expensive Trek Portland,

less expensive Schwinn World, Trek soho, fisher monara.

I've been reading a lot about bikes but really all I am getting from the reading are peoples preferences not really what makes one bike better than another.

Ideally I'd like to find a used bike but went to a couple shops and none had anything I am looking for.

Any tips/links/good ideas?

Looked, nothing close by, may look again when I have a better idea of what specifically I want.
