Is anybody a licensed pilot?
As the old saying goes: "Hours and hours of boredom, punctuated by moments of shear terror".

As far as your jet comment: You, and about ten million other people. I for one even wrote to my Congressmen about getting a ride with the Blue Angels on press day. I told him that I would go anywhere, anytime at my expense to where ever the air show was being held to do this. I never heard back from either my Congressmen, or the Blue Angels. As far as the former is concerned it is probably because I sent an E-mail instead of a check (IMHO).

I'm not a pilot but I've been up in small airplanes and taken the controls several times. Something like a Cessna 180 is very loud and at altitude, even though you're going 120mph, there hardly any sensation of speed.
I find track days several orders of magnitude more exciting.

Expressjet dba Continental Express
Awesome pic. Friend has a 1929 J3 Cub and it is a blast to be flying over a highway and have cars be going faster than your meager hp can take you. But doors open is a blast.
Dad is now an instructor at SWA was an ATP flying everything from KingAirs to Citations to DC8s.
Soloed at 16 did some cross countries with dad and never went back-regrets and folly of youth.
Now we fly the 737 sims at Love in Dallas.

PM me if you want to discuss, ( I'm from NJ and got my license out of Monmouth Executive, back when it was called Allaire, and have been to every airport in NJ,
) there is really a lot to talk about, all the ratings etc...... I first soloed at 16
, got my license at 17 and here I am 31 years old, still flying
, profesionally though, flying small airplanes is just too expensive, and besides on my day offs, sadly the last thing I want to be doing is flying airplanes, lol. Here are a few pictures from the flight deck
( am going to Captain class by end of the summer, so just call me Captain Joeyballs, lol. A lot of my friends have left the US Airlines to fly for China and for Emarites in Dubai, but it's not for everyone. The pay is killer but living in Dubai is not what I would call "living the dream". The pay is not anywhere near what it used to be, but the schedule beats a 9-5 and you fly airplanes for a living, could be worse. Each airline is different, some good, some awful, some union, some none union etc....
I caution you though, it's a drug that will take control over you like no other, once it's in your blood, your screwed, lol. The first time you take off and land an airplane by yourself, the sense of accomplishment is unparraleled, it really is special.
Self portrait, lol

Here is my all time favorite though, an old Pipe J-3 cub. Flying a jet at 37,000ft and Mach .80 is cool, but flying with the doors open is way more fun
