my brother is a cop and some of his high school friends are as well. he has shown signs of trying to get me into the line of field.

1) 40k+
2) you can go to the academy straight from HS and land a position somewhere but that course will suck in the long run. it'll be harder for you to move up the ranks.
i think the department my brother worked for partially paid for his tuition.
3) you can make well over 100K by working holidays/over time. i think court dates count as overtime.
then part time security for things like the local mall, sporting events, special city events.

if you become a cop, that means theres one less spot open for the "i AM the law, everything i say is right" type a-holes.

I work as a Corrections Officer which is very similar as far as the hiring process and requirements. Here are some other threads that might help you out...

Well when you wake up in the morning and go get you some breakfast your already risking your life. I beleave when its your time to go then itll happen. If its not, then you will go home at the end of your shift just like every other job. You could have the most easiest/non risking job out there and you could get killed doing that job.

Not trying to come across like a p**ck, im just stating that just because you are a police officer doesnt mean your going to die early .

Im glad that im getting feedback from each side of what you feel about this field. It helps the decision to become more clear. That type of money is hard to pass up tho.

Side note. I would hate to stop one of you guys in your s for excessive speed

Here's info on the WV State Police...

Most department's have there hiring process, requirements and salary info online. Just "google" the department's name and it should pop up.

Well I do infact have to be 21. Thats not a problem because thatll give me time to get in shape and make some money. It also gives me the chance to check out other fields that I am intersted in.

Also, I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade here, but become more conscious of what you're typing (note you're not your).

I realize you are in high school, but it's pretty important to have a grip on this before college, career, and life in general.

Things like your and you're; there, their, and they're; to, too, and two; here and hear;

Please also consider majoring (minor even) in CJUS while working for the Campus PD. These will, no doubt, accelerate movement in your career.
