Tebori (Japanese tattooing by hand)
Anyone had this done? How much more painful is it than a regular tattoo w/a a machine? I'm planning to cover up an older tattoo and getting a half sleeve and my chest done.
The folks at the tattoo shop told me the colors end up being a bit richer and it lasts longer. It also supposedly tears tissue less. The craftsman doing the work has been doing it for 20 years and flies in from Japan twice a year.
Any advice?

Not inked myself, but I've done quite a bit of reading about Horiyoshi and the art. Horitaka @ State of Grace in San Jose was one of few who was trained by Horiyoshi III. Perhaps what questions you don't get answered here you can try sending their way.

As far as I know the colors are better, and do infact fade less. Don't know about tissues and/or pain though.
