Anyone here lived in both NYC and LA?
I lived in CA when i was younger. Glendale, Palo Alto, etc. My sister lives out in SF now.
If I was you, take the opportunity to live in NYC for a while.
I mean, I've spent the majority of my life here and it's where I call home. It's fast paced, there's always something to do and there's a ton of opportunity here. It takes a while to get used to the city though and you don't necessarily have to live in Manhattan.
Give it a shot. "If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere"

Just throwing this option out there since I haven't heard it yet (maybe because you're not considering it):
Have you considered living outside of NYC? There are some VERY nice townships in NJ that are within a half hour train ride to Manhatten. Some places that come to mind are Summit, Chatham, Short Hills, etc... Real Estate can be VERY expensive in these areas but are probably in line or less with NYC $/sq foot. You can have a car, enjoy a yard, have the personal space needed and still be close to work.
Just another option to consider.

Just that I'm kind of yearning for a big metropolis sort of environment.

How are the various boroughs surrounding Manhattan? I've never visited any of them other than driving through on the highway at night. My brief impression of them wasn't so hot... They looked kind of ghetto frankly (think Southeast LA but more cramped). Again, this is from my fleeting impressions as a completely uninformed business traveler coming into and leaving town in the wee hours of night only. What's the real deal? Are Brooklyn, Queens, and so forth nice places to live? How are they compared to Manhattan?

Haha yeah man. I'm torn about 50/50 on it. I've always had it in my mind that California's the only place for me, and I still feel that way as far as the long run is concerned. But I'd imagine living in NYC for a few years would be quite a nice life experience, particularly when I'm still relatively young and don't have too many strings attached yet.
