My wife and I got lasik almost two years ago. She now has to wear glasses in low light conditions. I get what I guess are called halos occasionally when I am really tired. My vision is generally no better or worse than when I wore contacts.

If I had to do it all over again, I don't think I would. I didn't mind "dealing with" contacts. It was just kind of "me too" when my wife told me about hers, I didn't really put much thought into it. I'm not really sure the benefits outweigh the risks. Would you get elective tooth surgery to make it so you don't have to brush your teeth anymore, if the risk was you might lose some or all of your teeth, and you will most likely have to brush them again in the future? Hmm...

In any case, pay for it with a medical savings account thingy so you can save the income tax on that money.

I have an HSA (health savings account) starting 1/1/07 and I also have the ability to put $ into Flex.... so hopefully between those two I have it covered.

i am opting for the more expensive "custom" whatever... it is about $4500 but with my insurance it is $3500 out of pocket for me.

I would rather spend a few extra $ than to not be able to see C_unit's ass.

what the??????????

i got my eyes done for $1K!!!!!!!!!

in canada, laser eye surgery is considered cosmetic, and therefore not covered by the health system nor by employer health plans.....

PS. i got it done and i need to see more of c_unit's ass....
not all eyes are the same.
some eyes are harder to do surgery than others.
any surgeon that charges the same for everyone is cutting corners.
in any case, the surgeon who charges more are likely to be doing more tests and doing more for the patients (may not always be the case - ask questions). It's the "insurance" to improve the likelihood of a good outcome.
Insurance is an apt word because you likely will not need it but it's very bad to not have it when you need it.

also, think about it: how much is a car good stereo system, $1K? You would trust your eyes to a guy who charges $1K for surgery? You may have been lucky but I wouldn't count on being so lucky the next time.

Scot, you should check C_unit's thread from a few days ago where she was asking help with some pictures. There's a good picture of her in that thread

Honestly though, the surgery has always been much cheaper in Canada then the US, when I was having mine done, more then half the people in the room were from the US.

Supposedly it's quite common for them to cross the boarder.

Mine was 1300, though I don't remember what my precription was before. My Dr. had done over 130k operations.

my vision is horrible, so mine is more expensive. I would rather spend the extra $ and get tests done first, measuring, etc.... than to take the risk of going somewhere cheaper...... I could probably find somewhere for $1500, but I will piss away $2k on tires / wheels so why not spend it on my eyeballs....

although....I wouldn't mind seeing C_units ass by braile.......

(wonder if she knows we have made some many compliments of her ass yet).
