Anyone know how to stop X10.com pop-ups?

I know this is seriously OT, but I feel like x10.com is turning my broadband connection into AOL with all their stupid pop-up windows. They must have their target market right, because I get the pop-ups on a lot of sites I visit - MSNBC.com, Weather.com, Ubid.com, and epinions.com to name a few.

I susbscribe to Internet Week and a couple weeks ago they had the top 25 web sites (probably measured in hits) and x10.com was something like number 14. OMG, #14 for a site that sells dopey little cameras?

Ok, now for the point - does anyone know of a client-side software program to stop these pop-up windows? I know I can do this by setting up a proxy server, but I'd rather not do this at home. Any other ideas? I have a bad feeling that many more advertisers are going to start following in x10.com's footsteps.

Proxomitron is free, small, fast and works great: http://spywaresucks.org/prox/download.html

Setup is a snap, use the default settings. Have it startup automatically when you start Windows, and change your Internet Explorer settings to use Proxomitron as a proxy. It takes 2 minutes to setup and has good instructions.

You can turn javascript off, but you lose a lot more then you gain.

DaveZ, I know how you feel, those popups are so annoying. I've thought about disabling them, myself but gave up.

Agreed - way to many useful sites are using client side javascript for form submitals.

Thanks - I'll give it a shot.

"Spywaresucks.org" - yup, that's the right site for me!

I haven't tried this because of my proxy setup, but perhaps you could put an entry in your hosts file that points http://www.x10.com to your localhost? That way, any reference to that site would immediately time out... I think.

http://www.webwasher.com/

i like the hosts file idea, but you'd still get the pop-up (it would just be an error message).
