Default anyone in the publishing/book writing industry?

i feel very strongly that my sister has had an incredibatly dramatic life and toying with the idea of hiring someone to write a biography of her life.

i have no idea as far as who, how, where this is done.
how do i go about finding someone to do this?
do they just sit with her as she orally tell the writer her life story and he/she turns it into book form?

i dont know where to begin so i'm starting here in off topic.
i dont even know what to google to get started. :|

can someone point me in a good direction to begin?
thanks

The big question is will anyone else find it interesting? Just because you find her life to be interesting doesnt mean that anyone else will want to purchase Jane Doe's biography. That will be the hardest part in trying to lure any respectable author to write her story. Why not have her write it herself?

You'll have to start off small if you don't have any contacts.

Maybe pitch an outline to a local newspaper, college campus or you could always cold call publishers.

Also, I'm sure there are lots of bloggers who you'd might contact or you could also she could blog the story herself.

If she doesn't know people who write then she's going to catch the interest of someone else's eye. And in order to do that you have to make contacts.

I play music. You can't expect people to like you if they don't know who you are. I have a myspace music page. I have to "cold" ask people to be my friend. In order to reach more people you have to play shows.

Asking for a book deal is asking for a record deal. They rarely happen out of the blue. There is lots of work and effort that goes into establishing a name. This is even harder when there really isn't any "talent" just an idea.

I'm a free lance writer. Contact me via my email with some information and if I find that there's enough compelling information to write a good story, I wouldn't mind doing it. Email me at "allen@g-tastic.com".

My father has a book published with Warner books (in the motivation/personal change category) and it went like this:

1. He wrote the book and self-published it.
2. Found a literary agent to represent him.
3. She pitched it at a book show.
4. Warner made an offer to buy the rights.
5. They pay him an advance on the book and then he doesn't get paid again until the sales hit a certain number.

I think they call it vanity publishing when you do it yourself. It will cost you some money.
