I've got a friend who is wondering about importing a car from (I think Sweden) to California. Do any of you guys know what issues may surround this? I know there may be some emissions issues and of course, shipping it over. Can any of you guys help me with some information or point me to where I can find some help? Thanks!

 

Is the car available in the US? Is it less than 2 years old? These are a couple of the major questions he'll have to ask. Check with DOT, but Im willing to be that it will be more money and hassle than it's worth.

 

Your best bet is to contact a independent commercial importer, it'll save you a lot of trouble. Here's the information anyway...

I belive Volvo has that exact program...where you buy a car there in Europe and ship it to the states. You get it for about $8K cheaper and Volvo pays for your airplane ticket!!

I'm sure they have already figured out all of the import issues. Not sure what it's like for the other auto mfg'ers.
