Don't just look at the min weight for the seats. It's more a matter of height. The supports are designed for certain heights. You can have a 30lbs, 18 month old but he's only, 28" tall, which would mean he shouldn't be in that seat.

Rear Facing Seat - This is a given, should be used until he outgrows it really, usually around 20lbs or 1 year. If your child is small it's better to just keep him/her in there till they outgrow it.

I would get a Britax style next before the Recaro. The Recaro Style is more for children 3 years old and bigger. They usually can be converted to booster seats as well for those that are 4 years old and older.

If you put your one year old in a Recaro Style seat you are not properly fitting them. It doesn't have the proper support for children that age. Also remember those kind of seats usually sit straight or near straight up. The child's head will be flopping all over the case. The Britax Style seats have more head support and usually can tilt down to give them a more relax sitting position.

True. My Recaro says (AFAIR) 35lbs and up, plus the belt must lay properly on the child when in the seat. My daughter was a bit older than 3 when she was put in it and was already large enough.

A lot of people have given some good advice about what seat is appropriate for your child and when, but I'll suggest that you also make sure it's installed properly. The vast majority of seats actually aren't secure.
The underlying issue is that children must be properly restrained. Statistics show that only about four per cent of Canadian children are properly restrained to legal and manufacturer specifications.

Not sure about resources where you live but our local health board offers free car seat clinics.
As I think someone already mentioned, rear-facing seats shouldn't go in the front:
The Canada Safety Council has seen no credible, relevant data that air bag deployment poses a serious risk for properly restrained persons. The one exception is that a rear facing infant seat must never be used in the front seat of a vehicle with a passenger side air bag; current rear facing infant seats were not designed for use with passenger side air bags. Recent data from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in the U.S. (Status Report, December 7, 1996) show that air bags do not endanger properly restrained children

That seat is fine, assuming:

1. It fits in the car
2. The child is the proper size/weight
3. The seat is front-facing and the child is old enough for a front-facing seat
and optionally (depending on your POV):
4. The airbags are disabled

My seat (a few posts up) is from the same company, the main difference is that it is only for toddlers and older, and it has all-aluminum construction. Oh, and it fits in the S2000, no problem - only touching the perforated portion of the seat and not the bolsters.

That looks like it would be a better choice for a one year old. But honestly hold out on the seat until your child is big enough. Your child might be small/big/fat/skinny. Most of the Recaro seats I have seen are a more upright position, which to me isn't the best for a infant. You'll see they tend to sleep a lot in moving vehicles, so you want them to be comfortable.

Well if I strapped my meals to my front bumper like you did. I probably wouldn't know what kind of baby seat was appropriate for my kids either.

Besides, you probably don't really need a babyseat for the mobile home, right?

For the first kid, we got a Graco rear facing infant seat + 2 car bases +
s troller combo. This is very handy as you can use the stroller for a
long time (even after rear facing seat is not used) and the 2 car bases
make it usable for two vehicles. Then we bought a Eddie Bauer (same as
Cosco I think) front facing toddler seat that will last the child till they are
3-4, I think. Elder son still uses it (2yr 3 mths). Younger son is one month
old so he is recycling through the rear-facing infant seat.

Congratulations!!!
