Have you guys seen American Inventor?

Reason I ask is, the guy who won had an invention for a baby seat. The seat was specially made to reduce forward motion by being encapsulated in a spherical mechanism.

Looked pretty cool and something I'll be looking up once the time comes. It supposedly got picked up by the EvenFlo company to be produced.

Car Seat
There's a car design where the passenger compartment is designed around a semi-sphere. When you get into a rear or front impact the compartment rocks up. absorbing some of the impact. Seems like amusement park common sense to me. One of those things where you wonder why no one thought of that before. Guess its better in a drive by wire situation. Mechanical cables cant have enough slack to take a rocking motion but wires can!

I have this seat. It's great. I'm using it in the s2000. I know s2000's arent' baby safe, but it's temporarily and I don't have a choice. In 2 weeks he won't be in the s2000 again
I'd rather call a cab than risk your setup. I know its "only" two weeks, but it only takes a split second for something bad to happen.

I know the solutions have already been posted - but basically there are 3 stages of baby seats

1) Rear facing infant
2) Forward facing baby - using the 3 or 5 point harness with the seat
3) Forward facing toddler (BOOSTER)- using the car's seatbelt

Make certain that you utilize the LATCH system when you use the seat - it's much more secure than using a seat belt to hold the seat in place.
I thought the same thing until I read some recent articles, esp one on Consumer Reports. Evidently the LATCH system is NOT as secure as using the seat belt.

Take a look CR Test

Granted the article is dated (5/2005) but still quite informative.
