So I'm 2 pages into this thread and I still don't see an answer to the $1,000,000 question:

Is there a bill of sale?? Does it say "As-is"???
LOL. I went and read all posts waiting for this answer as well. So was there one made? This would negate everything the buyer is sueing for.

My dad has been a car salesman for over 20 years. Every car I have ever sold always states as is no warranty. I am not sure on what he can do if it doesn't state that so I can't help you there.

The lessons here:

Always get a bill of sale.
Never buy a project.
Never buy out of state.
Buyer beware.

It sounds like the parents are pissed because this kid spent a ton of money on a car that doesn't work well. OP had it as a project for three years and finally got tired of it not working, so sold it as is. How honest the OP was with the buyer we don't know, but anyone who buys a mod project sight unseen is pretty damn stupid imo. Life lesson for the buyer, hopefully.

there was really no bill of sale, but a documentation of how much he paid for the car. There was no written documentation saying that it was sold as is, but when you buy privately there is never a warranty unless stated otherwise or if there was a remaining factory warranty.

I would just tell him,
Sir, if you keep harassing me with multiple texts and phone calls and threatening me, I will have to report this to the authorities and let them handle this.
In court, I would bet there's a 3 out of 4 chance the judge doesn't know enough about cars to make a complex decision. I would say that the kid has driven the car 100+ miles as well as installed modifications to the car, and by no circumstance would I know the problems have resulted in. Perhaps it could be looking fluids or have improper connections.

Just installed a used K&N intake 2 weeks ago, had to remove the 3-way tubing that is melted together or something, deals with the coolant and stuff. The seller forgot the coolant cable, and I was like oh well its like $1.50 at o'reileys auto part. Went and got one hose, and it leaked. Went back after driving probably 15 miles to another one and they were like well it certainly is a strange size, but this fuel injector tubing should work. And it did.
Moral of the story: Installations are easily messed up, checking for problem areas the instant the car is turned on may be neglected since he is young and doesn't know what he is doing. I would say he told me he installed so and so injectors which could seriously impair the car's performance. (I learned acting ignorant is a good tatic in high school, got me out of trouble with the network admin . I did something and saved it to the projects drive was 30 mb, and he's like son if everyone saved something like that to the server then it would quickly fill up, even if we had a terabyte. Do you even know what a terabyte is?
No sir...
[hell yeah I did, had 1.5 tb in my pc at home, they didn't even have a tb?]
That was about 5 years ago when tbs started getting cheap, I had a mix of like 750 gb and 2 smaller drives)
