Default Bell's Palsy

Yesterday morning I woke up with a numbness to my face. Didn't really think much of it. Woke up this morning with left side of my face I can't move. My left eye tears up on it's own and I can't close it properly either. My tongue has lost taste as well. I look retarded when I smile or laugh too as like I said my left side does not move. This is ****ing annoying and I've only had it for 18 hours. It's hard to drink without spewing, and eat with just my right side of my mouth. I went to the doctor and he said it was Bell's Palsy and hopefully it will go way within a week with the meds he prescribed. Anybody know of anything to speed this up? I was told it's just nerve damage and nobody knows why it occurs so I guess I'll just hafta let it run it's course. Shit.

If it makes you feel any better, a buddy of mine got it about 4 years ago. He's almost completely over it now.

That didn't help did it? I hope for your sake it's a short lived episode, but I do know that it can last quite a while.

you should be on steroid. also go see an eye doctor to see about protecting your cornea.

My dad got it and was told it was from going repeatedly going from an extreme hot to cold enviornment.

His desk was directly beneath an aircon outlet and was around 18c and the outside temp was over 35c

It took him years to recover from it but that was back in the '80s so maybe there are better treatments for it now.

I know someone whose wife has it.

Not sure when it started but for her its been some time and it seemingly is getting worse.

I have a friend who contracted it. it comes and goes for him. I dont know much about it.

Sorry bro I would get to your doctor and see if there is a management for it.

OOPS I reread and you did go to the doctor. do what he says and read up on the condition...there may be triggers you can avoid in the future.

No known cause for Bell's. Steroid does help. You need an eye lubricant and an eye patch to prevent corneal abrasion.

I've got eye drops I've put in some to keep it moist when needed. I hope it's as short as the doctor thinks it's going to be

A lady I worked with had it once and she looked HORRIBLE but it only lasted for a week.

An article I read at the time said there was data to show that it may be linked to a certain herpes virus that effects the nerves. (the cold sore variety) But that was not proven.
