best state to live?
I have to agree with Traveldude...VA! And not just because I live here. Not cold/hot for long periods of time with four seasons - beaches, mountains, nice cities. Convenient to travel. And the DC area is an international community with a great job market.

Wow. Did you read his OP? Jesus this forum has some fuckin morons in it.
Our cost of living is insane, but you get what you pay for, and its the most beautiful place in the country, surf and snow!
If it were me, I can stand a little cold and love the outdoors so Utah, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and Texas.
But the Carolinas are also quite nice.
My wife is from Hawaii and we have spent lots of time there. Cost of living is extremely high and wages are generally low, (unless you are in the dock workers union!) so if $350k for an 800 sqaure foot condo is your thing, then maybe its for you. Its a beautiful place, but lots of the people she went to high school with either have moved out of state, still live with their parents (and she's 40 years old), or hold down more than one job just to live in a crummy apartment.
Her parents house is nothing special. I am not knocking it, its a decent place, but it is a 60 year old 1500 square foot rambler with a property tax valuation of over $1 million. Thats just crazy. That kind of money buys you a palace most other places.
The weather and the natural beauty are awesome, but you need to be a minimalist because all your money will go for a small place to live.

I chose NC for a few reasons - great climate with real seasons, but not a lot of snow. Low taxes, insurance and cost of living, but good roads and schools. Huge financial and tech industries. Easy access to the East Coast - you can get to NY or Miami in ~10 hours by car, or a 2 hr flight; you can drive to DC and Atlanta in 4-6 hrs, or a 1 hr flight. You can get to the mountains or beach equally easily. Its not filled with tourists because there's not much to see, but its green, hilly, and new. Its a lot like Oregon but on the East Coast, and sunnier.

i'm thinking about utah...but i'm asian..would i fit in??
Amazing summers, 1 hr or less from the airport to about 10 different ski areas, not over populated, insanely nice people, and not that expensive. If I wasnt so sick of snow id probably still live there.
...and being asian is no problem. There arent many black people, but UT does have a fair amount of latino and asian.

the city is becoming rather like portland, OR in my opinion.
It seems in the last few years it's becoming diversified..
Trendy and bars springing up.
The city (most of it) is super clean and the women there are amazing.
If you're single i suggest you move there asap.
They also have one of the greatest racing complexes in north america just 20 mins away, Miller Motorsports Park.
