I have a Blackberry 7100t (link to 7100t) with T-Mobile. I don't really use any of the features besides email all that much. Even without a full keyboard typing becomes second nature pretty quickly. And if you like the intuitive typing then you can really fly. The 7100t keeps every call and email and message of whatever type in a historical log. I don't know if there is a limit to the log, but mine starts at July 20th when I got the phone up to today. The web browser is ok if you want to check on easy stuff like weather or sports scores. Hitting the s2ki forums would be a pain in the ass. I'm sure the Treo would be much better for that with the stylus. As for planner functions I'm sure the Treo is better, too. Again, the stylus will offer a lot of advantages to filling out tasks and whatnot in a calendar.
I don't know if it's the phone or my cell carrier, but I have excellent reception even underground in the subway stations of Boston when some of my friends get zero signal. This phone sounds better than any previous Samsung or Motorola clamshell phone I've owned. Then again those weren't exactly top shelf, either.
Email is nice with the BB. You get a Blackberry alias where you can foward all your mail from various outside accounts. So you can get all your hotmail, gmail, etc all pushed to your BB.
The 7100t comes with a holster that will automatically shutoff the screen to conserve battery. It also has various functions that can be manipulated in profiles so that the phone behaves differently while in the holster instead of out.
All in all it's a good phone for me to use as a primary phone and to keep an eye on email. If I really needed better web functionality or more advanced organizer features I'd probably have to step up to a Treo 650 or something like it.

I'm setting up the 7250 for somebody and I'm currently familiarizing myself with it. The phone works great, it's actually more comfortable in my jeans pocket than my old nokia candy bar phone. The shape is rounded and fits nicely. Your call logs are accessed in a folder within your email apps. It's viewed as you would your emails but in a separate folder. It can store a lot of history, I haven't looked up the limits, but it seems like it stores until memory is full.
About email, I haven't been able to get it to download my old messages, it only gets new messages since the time I set it up. I asked a few more experienced people and they say this is how it works. But I rarely ever access old old emails anyway and there's no reason for those to take up space on the BB.
The internet is great, the interface and web page viewing works better than PocketPC and Palm IMHO. The pages are much more readable than my Ipaq. But it is a little slow to load some of the image intensive pages.
I too like it because it's simple and easy to use. I haven't used the agenda features so I can't comment. Another plus is battery life, my unit lasts forever, or 3 days with heavy usage.

wow, sounds good. i played around with my BF"s bestfriends BB last night, i think it was a 7200 series, and then later on last night i saw my aunt and she has a 7100 series, so i checked it out as well. they seem very user friendly and my aunt isn't very tech savy and even she says it's easy to use. so i guess it's a go then!
thanks all!
thanks all!
Seriously consider/check out the Treo 650 as well. I have one and I love it.
Battery life is great.
Calendar is very easy to use.
Im not sure about the BB but the Treo has a touchscreen.
Internet and email is also great, Wide enough viewing screen and reception and data transfer is great.
Sync'ing is easy.
Tons of apps since its essentially a Palm OS device.
Fits FLAT in my fron pocket. doesnt bother me at all.. i dont even use a holster or belt holder for it since it looks pretty rediculous there.
Hope this helps.

I was issued a RIM 7520 from work. It is just ok, personally i would never buy one, especially with Nextel. Nextel and a few other carriers do not support the modem that is built into the phone. I would love to use the phone as a modem. My friend has had the treo for years and used it as a modem. The phone was actually faster than his dial up and he has an unlimited data plan with Sprint.
