let's get this straight...porsche builds RACE CARS and ROAD CARS.....they are not remotely similar......[haven't been since the 1950's..]

honda builds world class f1 race bikes and cool race engines;;honda also builds high performance road cars.....they are also not remotely similar......

moral...if you own a street porsche you have nothing to be ashamed of..if you [or your corporation] owns a real racing porsche...YOU ARE GOD!!!

oh..yeah.. if you own a s2000,you be cool....and best of all..i don't think honda will actually let a civilian OWN a factory racer! that's REAL cool!!

I've driven both this past week, a standard boxster and a s(of course always driving home in my s2000...) The big difference is luxury. Not to mention storage space - two trunks! However, how about getting to work on that engine? not going to happen too easily. Both boxsters are softer than the s2000: long throw transmissions, much heavier clutches...unless you get the automatic/tiptronic(not available to compare in s2000...thank you honda) The s version is very nice, almost subtle in the way it gets going - it is fast, but you have to look down to know it. It does not "vtec" which keeps me in my s2000. And the extra $30k...

The only reason there is a Boxster S is because of the S2000.......The problem is the regular Boxster already cost more than the S2000. By the way, you know where Ferrari went when they needed to improve their F1 engines a few years ago. That's right they hired one of Hondas top F1 engine men.

I don't think it is really fair to put Porsche down for their continuing pursuit of turbo technology. Turbo vehicles today have progressed enormously from two to three decades ago. It is the same with normally aspirated motors.

In the classes where Porsche have competed in recent years, they have been successful. That is no different from Honda.

I am sure that Porsche's decision to move away from some classes of racing have been dictated by the mighty dollar. At the end of the day, they are still a very small company but they have done very well with what they have committed. People think Ferrari is also a small company but a lot don't realise it is part of a mighty automobile group.

Do Porsches costs too much? Well, that is a matter of opinion. The people who buy them don't think so or are prepared to pay a premium for the perceived "prestige".

I don't think that many of us would suggest that the interior finish of the Stook is superior to that of a Porsche in the same way that I doubt many Porsche owners would try to suggest that the finish in a Porsche is superior to that of a hand-finished Aston Martin Vantage. You have to pay for that.

I doubt anyone who has driven a 996 hard would ever think the vehicle is based on "old" technology. If it is, then let's give a little company credit for doing so much with it.

i can't believe y'all are crapping on Porsche.

i'm not saying that i would prefer a Boxster or Boxster S (after all, i own the S2K) but there is no way that any of you can seriously think this makes Porsche (as a car, and as a manufacturer) suck.

1 - if there was no S2K would you still be saying the Boxster S sucks?
2 - how many of you would be unhappy driving a C4 (much less a twin turbo)?
3 - have any of you driven an RS America? does it suck?
4 - any of you want to tangle with a GT2?
5 - go take a look at the lap records for Nurburgring. what marque has the top times?

i'm glad i drive the S2K.
i wouldn't trade it for the Boxster and i would have to think hard about trading it (straight up) for the Boxster S (though on a one for one trade i might end up with the Porsche). and if some fool offered to trade me for a C4 i'd have the keys before they could think twice.

Porsche rocks.
pure and simple.

Ditto!

I had a look at a Boxster S recently (not seriously) and I really like the car. Am I prepared to pay another $35K USD (based on prices in Oz) for it? I don't think so.

At that price, I'd opt up and pay the money for a 996.

Mind you, if you wanted to give me a Boxster S, that'd be another story

Wow, if some of you guys felt any more superior, you could be Porsche owners.

Okay, real question...a friend of mine with an S2K is going to come out to one of our AutoX/Time Trial events. He isn't much into the tech side of cars, but I wanted to let him know what kinds of tire pressures people run for AutoX or Time Trials. He has stock factory tires.

Thanks
