Guys, fellows, settle down! First of all if your going to talk about Porsche let's talk about the 911 Turbo. Again (128K) but worth every penny. The Boxster and S not a chance. Turbo technology is fine but you have to have a strong platform to work from. The Carrera GT is 500K to put things in perspective. Far out of reach by anyone here. What I'm saying, is no matter how you look at it the S2000 is a bargain when you compair it to the Boxster. I didn't make the compairson most of the auto magazines have. Most of us would find it quite hard to justify the cost of the Boxster/S because the little S2000 is truely in the same performance class and 30K cheaper. I looked at one and it isn't that special. For $60K it needs to be special. I can afford one but I choose the S2000. Don't sell this little roadster short. Ask the several thousand "OWNERS" registered here, they'll tell you too. You speak of past records and races but other brands have mirrored and surpassed Porsche. They are not the end all of motoracing. I've watched motoracing for 40 odd years and seen it first hand. Both here and abroad. The one thing you missed in this whole converstion is this is my opinion and you don't have to like it but this is the reality of the subject. If I was going to by a car on pure prestige it would probally be a 911 Turbo not a Boxster/S.

The GT3 Porsches have dominated because it was cheaper and easier to use an established Sports Car (911). Most of the other manfactures didn't race in the GT3 catagory because it doesn't sell automobiles on Monday! Numbers will always win out. Saleen, Corvette and BMW are back in the swing of things and winning races. Daytona, Sebring, etc. But remember this it's not a Boxster that has won this type of respect it's always been the 911. These are two dramitically diffrent automobiles.

 

The surface is older asphalt/blacktop. It is an old helicopter training area from the 'Nam era; quite a lot of space, actually. It has some places that are a little rough, a few shallow dips/low humps, and has some debris here and there, although we keep it as clean as we can.

Would this help refine the tire pressure numbers any? Mid 30's (cold) is probably close enough for his purposes.

PS Being in Texas, I am guessing the temps will be 100-110. It has been unseasonably cool lately (read: less than 100), but I am betting when I head out for that asphalt for 2 days straight, it will set new highs.

PPS I haven't had the time to lurk much here recently. I barely have time for PPBB. As for getting an S2K, I would love to add one to a hundred car collection with all the other amazing cars there are to drive these days, but alas I am a regular working slob who feels priveleged to have the 2 cars I do own. Believe it or not, a lot of us "over-payers" love our cars just as much as you love yours.

It can vari due to tempture but I'd say tell him to use a baseline of 37lbs front and rear and experiment two pounds eatherway. You still lurking around, I'm beginning to get the impression you just might buy one.
