Droid kicks assss. I freaking love mine. The browser flies (loading pages and scrolling.. which is ridiculously smooth), it loads apps in no time (literally), and google nav is sweet (map or satellite view, street view for turns, live traffic) . iPhone is great and all.. it works well, its intuitive (well duh, it's simple as shit.. my dog could work it), but android provides a better experience especially if you're into technology and gadgets. Having home screens is awesome. Multi tasking is awesome.

Keyboard is a little cramped, and the big gap on the right due to the "chin" and the dpad make the right thumb feel a little awkward. Other than that it's good.. feedback is fine, and I'm slowly gaining speed. I use hard qwerty for texts and emails, and the soft for browsing and quick input.

Not really missing pinch zoom when browsing or using maps.. the double tap function and zoom keys work well.

The screen is amazing. Seriously the iphone screen looks like shit comparatively mainly due to the droid having over double the resolution. It doesn't fade out in direct sunlight, it has the perfect touch sensitivity and it registers well (i'd say equal to iphone, or daaaamn near close. So basically these two phones are at the top in terms of touch screens.. and every other phone is somewhere down the line)

$350 EFT doesn't kick in till Nov 15th, so buy your Droid now and you will still be under the $175 - $5?/month EFT.

Ok I'm bored of writing this so back to playing with nesoid/snesoid.. I have every known NES/Famicom and every SNES/Super Famicom game loaded on the phone right now.. tonight I'll transfer over genesis Kick ass?

I didnt know you could tether the Pre. Do you have to root it first?
Yup. Gotta root it. I don't think Sprint allows teathering. They want you to buy a myfi or aircard.

It doesn't cost you anything to teather with a rooted Pre.

I tether with my BB. Granted I'm on EDGE not 3g, but T-mo hasn't bothered me about useage. How is the Android 2.0 software? Can you compare it to the Cupcake update?

if you tether with it as a USB connection, then you don't have to worry about battery life. i think i get way better battery life after it's been rooted.

The 350 ETF only applies to PDA phones. This is because Verizon is loosing a LOT of money when customers terminate 6 months into their contract (when they actually own the phone). The 175 ETF does not cover Verizon's loss after 6 months. Also this policy does not go into effect until the 15th.

The $29.99 data plan IS unlimited. I would know. I work for the company...

The tethering costs the same at Verizon and its only (real) competitor AT&T. You can "unlock" a Verizon smartphone just like you can unlock the iPhone... Also good luck ever getting a warranty replacement on your "unlocked" iPhone.

Are Verizon's data plans rediculous? Not when you compare them to ATT's. And especially not when you consider our coverage easily tops ATT's.
Ever heard the expression "everyone is in marketing?"

You're not helping out your company here. Every defensive post that you have about phones just makes me more satisfied not being a Verizon customer.

The battery life could be better but what smart phone nowadays comes with a battery that'll last as long as a dumb phone? Once the battery on the Pre is cycled thoroughly, it's actually quite good unless you watch a lot of videos or are streaming music etc. But like I said, they all drain rapidly when using them as such. And yes, Sprint doesn't "officially" know about the teathering but I'm sure they know.

Back on topic: I just found out that a guy I work with just got a Droid. Gonna check it out tomorrow. He used to be with Sprint and even he told my brother he's paying a crap ton more with Verizon. I'll put in my two cents when I check it out.

I love the Android 2.0 software but not so thrilled by the Moto Droid. Bought mine the 11th. Will return for the passion when that comes out, either within the 30 days for an easy exchange, or after and pay the 175, sell the Droid on ebay to recover that cost. Glad I got mine before the 15th!
