Drewchie is correct that a home invasion and a car theft are very different events under the law. You have a greater right to protect your home than you do for your car. Inherently there is more danger when someone breaks into your home v. stealing your car.

My experience with the law has taught me that even though I am capable of defending myself, and probably beating someone, it is not in my best interest to do so. Legally. As I stated before, if this guy did beat the thief as badly as he stated, he WILL go to jail. No doubts about it. I have read enough cases of this behaviour happening to know this. And even if he doesn't go to jail, rest assured, he will be sued in civil court and will likely have to pay thousands upon thousands of dollars in damages.

Moreover, this dumbass was dumb enough to POST this story online, where it will most certainly be used against him in court. Bragging about it will not earn much sympathy points with a jury.

Just because you have the ABILITY to beat someone, does not mean it is necessary to do so, nor does it give you the right to do so. The American legal system is specifically structured in a way that it defends ALL people, including the thief.

I really hope some people take something from his story, manly that if it happens to you, call the cops. There is a reason you pay car insurance..... and this guy is very lucky he wasn't shot trying to defend a stupid car that can be replaced!
