I second www.newegg.com . They rock! Great prices, affordable FedEx 3 day shipping and customer service. I haven't bought from anyone else in the past 5 years or so.

www.newegg.com I've always gotten good prices, quick shipping (sometimes free), and never a defective part.

whats pricey? everything is realtive.

Just off the top of my head.

The Athlon 64s 754pin lower end models are under $200. I think the A64 3000 is under $175.
As for video card. A vanilla nVidia based 6800 is the best (and cheapest) of the current cards, in the "value series"
I would say that if you are going to go back a series (not 6600 or 6800 and not x800) then get an Ati card. Probably a Ati 9800 pro.

Definetly use Newegg.com or Zipzoomfly.com while price watch may give you cheaper prices at other stores, they may be terrible stores in terms of customer service.

check resellerratings.com (but google it, I'm not sure if theres a hyphen in there) before you buy from anyone else.
And please stay out of Bestbuy, CircuitCity and Comp USSR. They have sales but for the most part thier sale price is still higher than neweggs.

PM me if you have any specific questions.

Oh and get a Lian Li case. (I love my LianLi)

just attend any of the local computer shows. you'll be supporting local vendors, the prices are excellent with lots of choices from numerous vendors under the same building, there's usually no tax with cash purchases, and you don't have to deal with shipping. on top of that, prices are generally negotiable. the only down side is admissions fee...
