I don't know if I want to defend Bale... but I'll say this... having a DP that doesn't know what he's doing, and ****'s around wasting time & money REALLY angers me. And yes, when I've had a guy do that, I've spent more than 4 minutes blasting him on set. Though, I will say, he initiated the conversation... I typically prefer to be nice and rail in private.

Sometimes, DPs in particular can be too focused on one of their lights, rather than the scene. The time I'm describing we were shooting outside, the sun was going down (and it had to be a sunset shot) and this guy walks over while we were shooting to put a ****ing piece of wax paper on a 1K... and we were outside! It made no ****ing difference. ... anyway.... anger can run high in those situations! (and no, I yelled AFTER the sun set.)

 

So Ted, what do you do, are you a Director, Cinematographer, LD, something else?

I've done some DP work, and AD, Dir work... but in very small productions & commercial work... right now (industry isn't exactly running so strongly) I'm working in Event Productions... eventually I'll make my way back to some behind the camera work... TV, perhaps?

the funniest part is that they probably could have reset and done an entire take in the time that bale freaks out. it would have been funnier if that came from the set of the machinist.
