Ive known about these programs for quite some time but am seriously considering applying to one. I think my circumstances are a perfect fit for applying. I have the time to commit to it, looking for a career change, and especially willing to learn as much as possible and apply that knowledge.

I am not a total beginner to programming as i know a little bit of C++ and basic VB.

Anyone have any input on boot camps?

I live in Southern California btw.

 

Boot camp? These are classes. Like all others. $10,000 tuition from what I see locally.

They're spectacular for getting you up to speed on languages, but not so 100% great on teaching you Computer Engineering, Automata Fundamentals, and some the "uncommon common sense" you might need if you're looking for a coding job.

Really depends from school to school. I take my continuing Ed from Edx.org, but I have 10+ years in IT (non-coding, but coding helps).

 

I was a little skeptical of these bootcamps at first. but after attending a few info sessions at various schools and speaking with some of the grads, I'm going to give it a try..

i got accepted to a bootcamp here in socal after a behavioral interview and a technical assessment.

these schools are strictly for web development coding (i.e.: HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT). i was under the impression they could teach you how to develop actual software (i.e.: operating systems, windows/mac applications, etc).

and yes.. no computer engineering and a lot of the theory that goes behind getting a CS/CE degree.

I liked the program that I'm in a lot is because we have to complete 7 projects to graduate, so atleast ill have something to show employers when i interview..

Im going to admit, this is going to be tough living and breathing code for 3 months.. but i hope it will be all worth it in the end..
