Default Coincidence or twilight zone?

Today I was thinking about two strange coincidences I have experienced.

In 1990, I was at the Denver Indy Grand Prix. Back when Al jr. was a force. Saturday during practice, I was standing trackside in a corner near an ABC-TV camera position. I later came to find out that the camera was live back to ABC in New York. They were looking at various race angles to plan their coverage for the next day. My good friend back home here just happened to be scanning satellite channels when he saw the feed out of Denver, saw that camera on his TV, recognized me in the crowd of about ten of us under that shadetreee, and was able to describe correctly what I was wearing that day.

Another was once when my home phone rang. Wrong number. The difference is the caller asked for a fellow I work with. It seems we lived on the same side of town, and his number was close to mine. I also knew the caller (his boss) from work. How often does that happen?

Anyone else have stories like these?

I got a fax at school last week from a student who said that she would be out of town this week (school starts today) and wanted to assure me that she wasn't dropping the class. The cover sheet was from the Air Force office of the program on which I'm working as a contractor. When I phoned her and told her the name of my company her response was "No way!" When I told her the program on which I am working her response was "No way!"

More later . . . got to get back to work.

One other thing comes to mind.
A guy I work with was looking to by his next car. I asked him what he was in the market for. Among other models, he mentioned an Audi A4. I knew one of the bank clerks at my branch has one, so that was my visual reference.

Anyway, he ends up buying a 330i. I mentioned to him for some reason that I thought of the A4 from my bank branch when he told me about it being a contender. We then determine that the clerk lives over in his neighborhood, and the same exact car was also his point-of-reference.

Other than those 3 things, I live a calm, quiet existence.

Many years ago I worked for a defense contractor in Anaheim. I didn't have an office per se, I sat in a large room with several computer terminals. The daughter of one of the scientists there was a summer intern and would come in to use the computer. We knew each other to say "Hi!", but that was about it.

One Monday morning she came in and began to work on the computer. After a few minutes she looked over and said, "My fiance and I were thinking about stopping by to see you and your family yesterday, but we ran out of time." Why would she think of stopping by to see us? She doesn't know us.

"Why is that?" I asked.

"You know my fiance."

As it turns out, she was engaged to the guy who lived next door to me in Los Angeles when I was a kid--from about 2-years-old to 12-years old. She was going to Cal State Fullerton, he was attending Long Beach State, she met him at a fraternity party, and somewhere along the way she mentioned the name of one of the people she had met at her dad's office. Yours truly.

Small world.
