You are missing the point.... FOR DEFENSE!
So have you ever had to defend yourself with your weapon? (I'm not having a go this time. Serious question)

I'm sure (or at least I hope) that most people who carry arms in the US would consider having to actually use them a great shame. Is that correct?
It took several hours of debating with myself as to whether or not i actually felt the need to purchase a pistol, and even more hours of thinking before i decided to enroll for a Concealed Weapons Course to have myself licensed to carry one. And once that was all completed, several weeks of debating as to whether or not i was ready to conceal the pistol daily. I do understand the outcome of my decisions, i do understand that that tiny bullet that is in my chamber not only has affect on the person i am defending myself/my family against, however it also affects myself in that i have to live with the outcome, my family as they have to live with the outcome, and the family of the person who was directly affected.

Yes. Someone was attempting to break in my house.

My statement is simple and I challenge anyone to disagree with it. I wish we lived in a world where we didn't feel fear everytime we stepped out of the house.

None of us really do, but I can tell you the paranoia level here is much lower than the places you guys are talking about and for that I am glad for me and pity you. Simple as that.
I am a gun owner but choose not to carry weapons in public nor do i use them for self defense. The only holes I put in anything are paper targets.

Am I too a "paranoid" American? I love target shooting as it requires a great deal of skill and discipline. It is somewhat relaxing to me.

Is it not somewhat nieve (sp?) to try and live without fear of your fellow humans. We are afterall animals. I know of no country in the world absent of crime, greed, and violence.

I do agree with you though and I personally would never carry a gun in public for self defense. I see too many people who think they are invincible when they are carrying a gun. I cannot judge though because i do not live in an area with high crime... perhaps I would change my mind if i feared for my life everytime i walked out the door.

Hey, I've got no argument with you! (particularly with a pattern like that!)

There is nothing better the using your right to own arms.
Now there's a person I pity . You know, it's interesting. There's a few people posting in this thread that I would just have guessed would be the firearm carrying type due to the kind of "tude" they normally project on the board. "Chip on the shoulder" types carrying pistols around... To me that's about as scary as the "bad guys" they feel the need to protect themselves from.

To stay on topic, I suggest you just get a different vehicle Black Nugget. Maybe something like a mustang or possibly a pickup truck even .

And you shot them (this is not a criticism. If someone broke into my house I would use what many courts would judge to be 'unreasonable force' to get them out)?

I'll answer yes, it would be a great shame to use lethal force in self defense, whether firearm or any other weapon. The right to keep and bear arms is in our Constitution, and deeply rooted in American culture and society. Gun owners are wrongfully stereotyped by the Michael Moore media as fear-mongers and violence prone. In reality, the right to keep and bear arms, and those that exercise their right to do so provide a great deterrent force. It is the leftist anti-gun view that promotes fear of guns and gun violence in an effort to further restrict the rights of law abiding citizens. I am thankful I have the right to own and carry a firearm, do so with pride, and hope that I should never have to use it for defense.

I did not have to shoot them. They ran away. But if they did not run away, I absolutely would have shot them dead.

Now what I don't get is the "pride" thing. Why the heck would someone feel pride from carrying weapons around on their person? Perhaps the stereotype lives...
