Default Count (Ass) pennies or just make more $?

I am surrounded by insanity......

Would you rather count pennies or just make more $?

One relative apparently argued with his wife about the difference in a $1.00 dinner (she wanted X for $10.99, but he thought she should have XX for $9.99)......They will go to great lengths to find a bargain. They tip poorly, will spend way too much time figuring out which gas station has the cheapest gas.....

Different relative keeps track of every single cent they spend to compare to some budget, also tip poorly, the gas station thing, etc........

These people have lots of free time to sit around and do nothing. If $ is that tight why the hell don't they do something about it rather than count pennies? plus they both bitch about $ to some degree.... not constantly but to some degree.....

Do you guys have relatives like this?

Unfortunately, yes. I put them on my mental "ignore" list. One of them is actually a nun. She's quite the specimen. Lives off the generosity of others and bitches about greedy capitalists and complains about the price of everything.

Yes Scot tell them to stop eating out if their budget has less than a $1.00 margin of error. It is more healthy to cook at home anyways and they will save money on medical bills in the long run.

It would also be good for them to persue a higher education in their spare time instead of worrying about pennies.

Damn, Scot, you really make me miss Mechanicsburg with all your threads about the folks there... Surely, however, there has to be a balance, right? I mean, apart from those who post on the internet (we're all infinitely rich, right?), everyone has limited means to different extents. I feel that as I get older, I am less interested in buying this shit or that shit (but, then again, by this point in my life I have accumulated plenty of shit). Apart from my fixed expenses (monthly bills plus food and home maintenance-type crap), the only thing that I find myself spending money on lately is wine. I really like the stuff. So, I think pinching pennies can be a good thing because, since we don't all post on the internet, we don't all have an unlimited ability to "just make more $ (I have a doctorate degree and could not stand any more school)." I have also seen that in many instances, no matter how much $ some people make, they will find a way to spend all of it. I'm sure this doesn't apply to the good people of Mechanicsburg, though, since they are just scraping by to buy gas and dinner at the Golden Corral (oh, and gold grills, puffy jackets, ring tones, etc.).

OMFG yes.

This one relative we have, a counsin and his fiance are cheapies to the extreme degree. One time we went to dinner with them and other family members and when the bill came, the dude whipped out his calculator and calculated his and his girl's share down to the penny. They also didn't tip or tipped poorly as I recall. I remember his brother and I had to put in a little more $ to cover his bad tip since the service was really good.

I really get annoyed by cheap asses. If you don't plan to tip or spend money, then stay your asses home and eat ramen noodles.

So for me, its not about making more money, its about not going out if you're going to be cheap or not buy that x car if you can't afford gas or proper maintenance.

I love those lame threads sometimes in S2000 Talk when some stupid newbie asks "Is 87 Octane OK to use in my S2000 because gas is too expensive and I can't afford it?" Don't buy a car that requires 93 Octane in the first place if you can't or don't want to afford it you dumbshit!

dont make me feel bad mav, our highest octane in california is 91. i'm gonna have to start feeding my ap2 some octane booster at this rate.
but no... i dont use anything below 91. no matter how expensive gas is, high grade is worth paying for my ap2... even if it means skipping meals.

aahahah... these aren't actually Mechanicsburg relatives...

you may not hvae been been here in a while....good bye Golden Corral and hello Fire Mountain (slightly more sophiscated piggy trough)...

I personally don't ever see myself "doing nothing" in retirement. I am unable to just sit still here in COW VALLEY.

Just thought I would post about my "springer" like family. It is funny to hear someone argue over $1.00 though.... I bet that was a great dining experience no matter which meal she got....

i have a penny pinching aunt that lives just up the street from me. she has tons of money but she's just really stingy. she only shops at the 99 cent stores or dollar plus bargain stores. she doesnt go to expensive places (or decently priced places) her idea of eating out is mcdonals, jack in the box, burger king, and other such fast foods. she picks up every penny she sees because according to her "how can you make a dollar if not from pennies" her husband works for the navy and she's a dental assistant with another dental side job. when she goes to an all you can eat buffet she makes it a point to not eat anything the whole day and she goes at the end of their lunch hours so she pays cheap and then eats through the dinner menu.
she comments about how everyone else has more money than her, when really everyone just chooses to spend their money as opposed to putting it in the bank and storing it for someone else to make a profit of. she doesnt want to buy her dream car because its "a waste of money" and she doesnt want another house "she cant afford it"
truly puzzling... if you ask me you earn money to spend it, not to put all of it in some bank so that they can make a profit with lending your money to other ppls...
i dont wanna be related to her anymore
someone help...
