Maybe she plans on being buried in piles of hundreds???? She should be spending it while she can. Make sure you are in her will.

[QUOTE=shotiable,Jun 26 2006, 05:08 PM]i have a penny pinching aunt that lives just up the street from me. she has tons of money but she's just really stingy. she only shops at the 99 cent stores or dollar plus bargain stores. she doesnt go to expensive places (or decently priced places) her idea of eating out is mcdonals, jack in the box, burger king, and other such fast foods. she picks up every penny she sees because according to her "how can you make a dollar if not from pennies" her husband works for the navy and she's a dental assistant with another dental side job. when she goes to an all you can eat buffet she makes it a point to not eat anything the whole day and she goes at the end of their lunch hours so she pays cheap and then eats through the dinner menu.
she comments about how everyone else has more money than her, when really everyone just chooses to spend their money as opposed to putting it in the bank and storing it for someone else to make a profit of. she doesnt want to buy her dream car because its "a waste of money" and she doesnt want another house "she cant afford it"
truly puzzling... if you ask me you earn money to spend it, not to put all of it in some bank so that they can make a profit with lending your money to other ppls...
i dont wanna be related to her anymore

I have relatives that have are penny pinchers, but I'm the opposite.

I usually tip well because an extra $2-3 isn't going to hurt me. I'll stop and buy gas from a gas station that is $0.10/gallon more expensive than the station closest to my house only because again, an extra $1 or 2 won't kill me.

Sure, I'll look for sales and deals, but generally just on higher-dollar items.

I have mroe relatives who drive a 1995 escort wagon and a 1993 achieva... their house has been paid off for 15+ years. They get almost $50k per year from his railroad retirement (40 years of service or something like that).... you would think they came from a trailer park. Polyester, stained jackets, no name sneakers, no vacations. They basically hang out at the VFW, Amvets, Moose, etc... and drink cheap drinks and smoke cigs....

the have never offered to buy anyone anything.... they are as poor as it gets if you were to ask them. they are near 70 so you would think they would start to live a little???
believe me... i suck up as much as i can to ensure my presence in her will. but it just doesnt work. she seems to want to either give her money to uncle sam, or to some other retarded relative... because... iono... she's weird and obsessive compulsive! i need to write my name in her will!

my whole entire side of my mom's family is like that... at least the generation that was born in the Phillipines. but being poor rice farmers in a developing country will do that for ya... the next generation that was born here in the US is the complete opposite. me and my cousins all have newer cars, clothes, shoes, gadgets, electronics, etc. our parents are tightwads like no other though... it's embaressing going to the store with my mom sometimes cause she'll try to barter with the cashiers like she's at a flea market in manila or something lol.

Make more money, I say.

I met a multi-millionaire once (I'm pretty sure he's a billionaire) who said that people sometimes ask him what he thinks about money. His answer is always "Well, what do you think about oxygen?". People say "Huh?". He says well, you need oxygen to live, but do you spend your whole life thinking about it? No, you just go around breathing all day. I have enough money to buy what I want, whenever I want it. I don't think about money at all, it's just there when I need it.

That's how much money I'd like to have. I figure an income of $100k/month would be a good start though. I could live with that for now.

I try to have a lifestyle that allows me to basically do 'whatever I want' (within reason).

The idea of counting pennies is absurd to me. I don't want to have to think twice about a $70 round of golf or a $30 meal.
