Silver, I remember when it came out on video, I was one of those who had to go out and rent it at the time. And sure enough, the kid was there. Some myths of some kid dying on that set, and other people reduce it to a marker in the film or a mistake, or even a marking ploy. Whatever it was, it was pretty freaky and it worked for rentals.

Have you ever thought that children might be more inclined to see such things because they do not require the emperical evidence as we do (being older) to believe in something like ghosts?

Wow, Mike, that's some creepy stuff.

ElTianti, I think you alluded to the heart of the issue - "real" science. I have been involved in nootropics (look it up) for many years and can absolutely unequivocally tell anyone who asks me that I have personally experienced a very wide range of benefits from these sorts of things. I have been a student of it for many years and the brain surgeon that lives next door to my parents, hugely successful at it, and I mean HUGE, believes it and is on a nootropic program himself. You can't get any more credibility than that as it relates to nootropics, in my book. I have had many conversations at length with him about this and he TOTALLY agrees with what I am about to say about science.

What does mainstream or "real" science say about nootropics? They think it's hogwash, they think it's a farce...yet I know the benefits and have experienced them personally. What I am getting at is that any credible evidence that is out there gets pooped on my mainstream science as "fringe" or unscientific for some reason, that probably has more to do with the fear of corrupting their agenda than it does anything else. It would look bad if "real" science suddenly had to embrace the concept of the existence of ghosts, when it has decried it for so long. It's kinda like eating crow...they don't want to do it. This applies to the medical industry as it relates to nootropics, as well. That is the parallel I am trying to draw.

I don't care that these particles you speak of can be detected. Does that mean that I think modern science is awesome in its ability and power? Absolutely, I do. But science doesn't always have all the answers. How does science explain religion? It really doesn't have much of an explanation for it, because most all religion is based on an intangible called 'faith,' something that science simply cannot account for. So, there is a divide between what is real and provable, and that which is believed on the basis of faith. If you deny the existence of that connection, then you are ignoring a fundamental aspect of human nature.

I'm going on faith and that is why I believe in the existence of ghosts. Whatever science HAS proven will be pooped upon by mainstream science because it goes against their paradigm. To my mind, yes, three are lots of hoaxes and desperate people trying to make others believe something, but there are, as I stated in first post, legitimately inexplicable things that your mainstream science cannot explain. That's the little sliver of an area where these ghosts and energy are. I have always thought about it as energy that is caught in limbo...one of the dominant "givens" in physics is the Law of Conservation of Energy, where it states that energy cannot be created nor destroyed. Some energy has burned up here on earth due to the space shuttle blasting through the atmosphere. But by and large, almost the exact amount of energy that was here when all this came about is still here. Where does all of this energy go when someone passes? My answer is that it sometimes gets stuck between "here" and "there". where is here and there? I really don't know. I am not convinced in an afterlife and I'm not religious.

I think it's all energy and some amazing developments are taking place that WILL prove my case...that is not only my hope, but it is my expectation.

And no thanks, I don't smoke pot...you can have it all for yourself...

The way I look at it, science can't explain everything. And the law or the theory is changing all the time. I mean, people once thought that world was flat. And can science prove "Love?" or "Death?" (Definition of death is changing also. First it was declared dead when our heart stoped, then it was changed to when our brain waves stoped) Or the "Soul?" What makes us alive? We can make or put together just about any body organs now, but we can't make it come to life. If we could, then we would be bringing dead people back to life by now. Once we are dead, we are dead. And science thinks our "love" is nothing more then some chemicals found in chocolate. My physic professor once told our class " Science is our best guess of how things work, and it's just that. A guess." True our guess is getting much better and accurate, but it's not writen in stons. And there is many things in our world where science can't touch. That's just my opinion.

Mike,

So that explains the hair.

Seriously though, that's pretty freaky about your sister. I take it that all the freaky stuff that happened to you was when she was still living with you.

Do I believe these are spirits? no, my best guess, is some sort of residual energy, that we for the most part are unaware of. Since my sister has moved out, they happen very rarely, but my sisters new house, in the year that she has lived there, she has about 120 stories already. Uggghhh gives me the creeps!

Let me throw in my 2 cents.... I've explained something "weird" myself when I was younger. This was at an old apartment that I had lived in years ago. I always heard my mom saying weird things happening there. She once told me that after she put all of us kids to sleep, she layed down on her bed by herself. Next thing you know, she said she felt something get on the bed and had this cold shiver run down her back. CREEPY!!

At the same apartment, I had my feet inside this black square piece of furniture. I was on the phone with a friend when I suddenly felt something start pulling my feet. I was yelling at my friend for help when this happened. After moving out of this apartment, I visited our neighbors a few times. They had told me that the new people living there had strange occurences also. I am fascinated about this subject and watch shows on it all the time, even though it gives me the creeps. I see them using EMI counters to measure any abnormal electrical magnectic field which "sprits" are supposed to give off.

Damn! Are all of you people on the pipe?

Putting aside epistemological argument (it's a good thing Kant doesn't visit this board), the unvarnished truth is the no one can ever produce any EVIDENCE. That is something I can see, something I can touch. They always have blurry photos / video which are always fakes / hoaxes.

Most skeptics know of (The Great) James Randi. For years he's had a standing offer of ONE MILLION DOLLARS (pinky near lips) to *ANYONE* who can demonstrate some paranormal phenomena under clinical conditions. Since he is a trained magician he knows all the tricks. Of course he still has he money. Every one who has tried has been a grifter or delusional.

Time and time and time again these people who claim paranormal powers are always, always con artist.

If Miss Cleo could tell the future, why hasn't she taken Randi's money or why isn't she at the horse track? Or better yet, why didn't she know she would be indited?

If you going to believe in thing for which there is no evidence, why limit your self

Holy s**t I agree with ElTianti

What the hell is this "energy" and "planes" that people keep talking about. I bet they don't even know what those words mean. Psuedoscience all.

I was talking about ghost or the souls here, not some paranormal powers.

So you don't believe in anything unless you "see" it? So you don't believe in love, or soul? If you lived in that past, you are the type of person who would of laughed at the idea that world was round, or earth revolved around the sun.

Oh, and I don't belive in paranormal power ether. But there is always "If" or "What if"
