My parents are both 84 years old and I talk to them daily. 20+ years ago when I lived 10 hours from them I talked to them once a week just to let them know I was ok. Now they're older and I don't live too far from them and I want to check on them everyday. They took good care of me for the 1st 15 or 18 years of my life, I wouldn't be much of a son if I didn't do the same for them in their later years. It all depends on the relationship, my wife only talks to her dad once every week or two.

My wife and I live about 1,500 miles away from our parents. I talk to my parents about 2-3 times a week. She talks to her parents (her mom more than anybody) at least once a day. It's a good thing we have unlimited long distance for $15 a month.

The question as written asks if I call (refer to?) my parents as commonplace.

Perhaps the author wanted to know if I call them every day - two words.

omigod girl, watch out! That sounds like my "man" less the dropping off laundry at mom's (there is absolutely no excuse for that). I kept thinking oh but he's so cute and so sweet, blah blah blah.... 2 years later I've come to the realization that YES I AM a babysitter! Chances are that when you need a man by your side, you'll realize you have a little boy, and that just doesn't cut it.

A guy who's that big of a moma's boy is one gigantic red flag.

oh, and btw, if the relationship progresses and you guys move in together, don't expect for one second he will suddenly grow up cos he won't. If you think for a second that having a house with you will some how inspire him to start doing the laundry, dishes, house work, yard work, fixing things up.... na-ah... You'll either become his full time mommy and baby sitter, or his mommy will come over and take care of him. Think about it. That's not a healthy adult relationship. Some one still's stuck suckling.

My mom get very ill last year (and she isn't old) which was a huge wake up call for me.

Now I don't go more than a day or two without talking to here.

As for dad, we work together so I see him every day
