I have had more bad experiences with cops than good ones. One guy ticketed me for speeding, lowering my old teg with Neuspeed springs and Tokico shocks, and exhaust. He said my car was too bouncy and dangerous. Then when I went to contest the fix it ticket in court and after I lost the case, he threatened to throw me in jail if I didn't fix this stuff. Basically, he wanted to inpound my car and throw me in jail right afterwards. He didn't, but stated very clearly to me that if he ever caught me again without that shit fixed, he would bust me on the spot. If I ever saw that guy bleeding in the street needing medical attention, I would literally step over him without a second thought. I don't think all cops are like him, but all it takes is one guy to make them all look bad.

nothing but respect for them. you could not pay me enough to do their jobs.

I can never understand folks who hate cops because they broke the law and gets caught. There was a poster on maxima.org the other day that posted he hates cops now because he got pulled over twice for speeding in 1 week, once 95 in 55 and the other 55 in 35. I don't get it... you wanna play you gotta pay.

No, I don't hate them. However I don't think people like Rodney King would feel too sympathetic towards them. Unfortunately corruption is rife in the police force as it is in Government.

My personal experience with them has been quite good but in a lot of instances the focus seems now to be on money instead of community. The way the police are used as revenue raising tools of local councils and state governments is IMO a misuse of police resources.

It's been an interesting decade watching public figures fall from grace in this country... politicians, judges, clergy, police .......

I too have the highest respect for law officers, however one thing struck me as I read the essay - it seemed awfully bitter.

There are some good ones out there but unfortunately there are some bad ones out there as well. You want the bad ones??? Go to GA to any of these small towns there. Take your pick. Helen, Clarksville, Cleveland or Clayton. The Clayton cops were ok but the rest of them needs to work on their "I am the LAW attitude"
Won't be going back to those towns ever again.

Jesus, Im ready to admit it. I am a hypocrite.
I am soooo guilty of all that man had to say, I didnt realize it until I read it. I always give to the FOP (feternal order of police), I put my interior light on and my hand on the wheel when Im pulled over, etc, etc. But all in hopes of getting out of a ticket or getting something for me, but as soon as that cop gives me a ticket, I cuss him for a dog (not to his face, always behind the back). I rant and rave for weeks about how he was picking on me or he should be out finding bigger crimes to solve. In accuality I was at fault and he was doing his job. I wish I could go back and say I am sorry to all the cops I have disrespected, cussed, lied to, and just ben a jerk to. I have always had a certain respect for cops, but this speach really hit home. I will try to remember these words in the future

At risk of flames, I have to say that that kind of pompous attitude is at the heart of what's wrong with police personnel in this country. I could go on but the common perception among many officers that they are the only ones holding back the "mongrel hordes" is another reason many people have come to disrespect the profession.

I suspect police training in Europe could offer a lot of good lessons to our police instructors. Cops over there don't seem to suffer from the hero complex many of our officers seem to have.

The profession is good but the training seems to leave alot to be desired.

Sometimes I thought about being a cop so I can stop getting tickets and being harassed for having a fixed up car.
