well, i guess i should have known that my post would be misconstrued by some as the "rantings of a jaded law enforcement professional" instead of the "venting of frustration by a public servant towards an immature individual"
i believe that you have taken my statement out of context and applied it to how i feel about the public in general which is absolutely not true
for starters, my high-tech weapons and spectra/aramid body armor do not mean a damn thing when someone points a gun to my head, or when three guys decide to jump me at the same time---wanting to become a police officer does NOT mean that you are a kamikaze law enforcement professional----i'm sorry, but my life is just as important as the next persons---you do not take an oath to give up your life at the first sign of danger---that is just ludicrous-----i took an oath to uphold the law and serve the public and if it means putting my life in danger, so be it, but it does not mean be reckless with it and sacrifice your life at the first chance you get-----
i used to hate cops when i was younger----HATED THEM---i never understood why they did what they did and why they acted the way they did----i was very misinformed when i saw news accounts of police brutality and often questioned the integrity of every cop i came into contact with-----it wasn't until i pinned that badge on my chest that the veil was lifted and i was able to see clearly BOTH sides of the issue because i had been in BOTH situations-----and although we are all entitled to our own opinions, i must share that i feel strongly that until you have close family in law enforcement or until someone becomes a police officer, that you will never TRULY understand what goes on in our world----
and there's my 2 cents.......again

Tsingtao,
I guess it's just a matter of perspective. I'm sure, as a cop and hanging out and working with many other cops, you see things a certain way and there's probably some truth to that perspective. However, when I read your post where you indicate that you get pulled over all the time but haven't been given a ticket in the 4 years you've been a cop and you put a big smily face next to it I see that you really don't see both sides as your profess. You seem to think it's ok for cops to get special treatment because they are cops. I've seen that attitude before. I have an old friend who is a sheriff and he loves to boast about how he goes out and gets $hitfaced drunk but if he gets pulled over he just shows his badge and instead of getting arrested as most citizens would he gets a police escort home. It seems that cops, with their "code of silence" about turning in corrupt cops, and their feelings that they should get special treatment, really create a lot of their PR problems themselves. When cops start treating citizens like they should (read my first post for some of my experiences) and stop thinking they should get special treatment just because they are cops then maybe the populace will again give them the respect they deserve.

well, i don't specifically recall saying that cops should get special treatment, but i totally understand what your saying because i have been in your shoes before.....
man, i've had a long day......
....why can't we all get along?....

[B]Well, after reading through these posts, i have to say that i'm glad to hear that you guys all respect cops-----mainly because i am a police officer (in a city that shall remain nameless here in Texas) and that means a lot to me-----i just got off of work and i really hate my job sometimes because i get so much shit from people who don't understand how stressful my job can be----i put my ass on the line everyday-----i don't get paid for what i do, i get paid for what i might have to do----and people take us for granted every day----we have a copy of Trooper Browns letter at our p.d. and he really hits the nail on the head------i mean don't get me wrong----when i'm doing 95 down the highway (in my silver/red '01 s2k) and i get pulled over, i can't say that i'm thrilled about it----seeing those freaking red and blues makes be break out in a cold sweat when i'm on the wrong end of it------i got pulled over recently and even though i'm a cop, the guy was a total prick to me and bitched me out-----we don't always get breaks either (although i might add that i have not had a single ticket since i have been a cop (4yrs.) and i get pulled over a shitload
)
anyway my point is this---just because you find one counterfeit $20 bill floating around doesn't mean they are all counterfeit------and the same goes for police officers-----just because you hear about one prick abusing his power and doing some really shitty things doesn't mean that we all do it----we just end up getting a bad rap for it------
i was eating (in uniform) the other day at a restaurant and i was paying at the register with a credit card---and she looked at it and looked at me and asked me for i.d.-----i was slightly irritated and offended because of the fact that i have my freaking name in chrome on my nameplate and the same name is on the card and i still get carded?
