Do you hate Cops???
Most cops seem fine but it is the stupid laws they have to enforce that need changing. Driving through the desert with nothing but tumbleweeds in sight and a 70 mph limit? Gimme a break! Car too low or too loud? Gimme another break! If they would put half the cops they have wasting away in the traffic detail on real criminals maybe they could make some progress.
My uncle works for the LAPD. I think that some are good ppl and others are az-wholes! Some are so jacked up on a powertrip. Some of the younger ones are worst than gang members. Seems like the PDs are just hiring anyone.

Of course, the European police don't usually have to contemplate the prospect of the citizen they stop having a deadly weapon on board with which to possibly blow their head off.
In addition, one's perspective can certainly be colored by the fact that they are usually being stopped for a very good reason.

Hate cops? For starters to me hate is too strong of a word. I may dislike but not hate. Police officers- I have the utmost respect for these men and women. It's unfortunate that theres always a few bad seeds but its part of human nature. The battle of good vs. evil keeps life as great learning experience. If good only existed we'd all be living like the novel " A Wrinkle In Time" everybody would like the same things and doing the same things. Sound pretty boring to me. Ok Ok so I'm reflecting back on my literature grade school days, but every experience I've had with an officer whether it was postive or negative( Yes I'm humble and admit I'm not perfect) was for my own good. Yeah some of these officers may be big headed but my respect for them doesn't change. They'll be forgiven one day.

The sentiments expressed by this officer are the sort of sentiments expressed by most people in their everyday job. People always feel that they are being judged too harshly or people just don't understand how hard I work, etc. The difference here is that police officers have to be held to a higher standard and they have to scrutinized closer. Any profession, and there are few, that can have the sort of profound impact on people's lives (good or bad) needs to bear this extra burden.
If officers feel that as a whole they are treated unjustly, than they need to do something about this. This is no different than me sitting in my office complaining that other groups within my company just don't understand me or the pressures I have. I am sure this is true. However, it is my responsibility to communicate issues and priorities with these people. We cannot be expected to take our precious personal time to try and figure out what everyone else's issues and problems are. The police are such a closed organization that the only real experience any of us have with them are in unfortunate moments. Do I want people in my company to see and hear me only in moments of crisis?
It seems to me that police need to be more proactive in their PR and in citizen education. I don't expect the officer to try and uncover the sort of day I have had if I am pulled over for speeding. At the same time don't expect me to try and figure out the tensions of your day. With that said, I expect everyone to be treated with dignity and respect until or unless they prove themselves unworthy of that.
Police need to take the responsibility for communicating better to the community. The community needs to take the responsibility of actively listening. If you don't do that, than you have no right to complain.

Well, after reading through these posts, i have to say that i'm glad to hear that you guys all respect cops-----mainly because i am a police officer (in a city that shall remain nameless here in Texas) and that means a lot to me-----i just got off of work and i really hate my job sometimes because i get so much shit from people who don't understand how stressful my job can be----i put my ass on the line everyday-----i don't get paid for what i do, i get paid for what i might have to do----and people take us for granted every day----we have a copy of Trooper Browns letter at our p.d. and he really hits the nail on the head------i mean don't get me wrong----when i'm doing 95 down the highway (in my silver/red '01 s2k) and i get pulled over, i can't say that i'm thrilled about it----seeing those freaking red and blues makes be break out in a cold sweat when i'm on the wrong end of it------i got pulled over recently and even though i'm a cop, the guy was a total prick to me and bitched me out-----we don't always get breaks either (although i might add that i have not had a single ticket since i have been a cop (4yrs.) and i get pulled over a shitload
)
anyway my point is this---just because you find one counterfeit $20 bill floating around doesn't mean they are all counterfeit------and the same goes for police officers-----just because you hear about one prick abusing his power and doing some really shitty things doesn't mean that we all do it----we just end up getting a bad rap for it------
i was eating (in uniform) the other day at a restaurant and i was paying at the register with a credit card---and she looked at it and looked at me and asked me for i.d.-----i was slightly irritated and offended because of the fact that i have my freaking name in chrome on my nameplate and the same name is on the card and i still get carded? like i had this uniform custom made to commit some credit card fraud-----WTF!!!! it sucks that other crooked cops have made it shitty for the rest of us nowadays.........
anyway---there's my 2 cents-----i need a beer now........
