Do you keep a private stash away from your significant other?
It's an interesting topic. Not married yet myself, but my gf is soooo friggin' generous to me with her money (she's working, I'm unemployed) that I feel all kinds of guilt because of how freely she spends on me.
However, I don't think a private stash is such a bad idea, as long as you're not making it a secret stash and not letting on about having one.
As Dr. Phil often says: "People with nothing to hide, hide nothing." As long as you're honest about having a private stash, and money isn't so tight that you can't have one, there's nothing wrong with it.

If my wife has a secret stash I don't know about it, but then again I don't know what is in the regular accounts. I buy what I want (although she won't let me spend the money to turbo her Porsche) and so does she and she pays all of the bills out of our accounts. Hell I don't even know what my net paycheck is as it is direct deposit and I never look at the stubs. My wife did tell me that I got a raise a month ago so that I was able to thank my boss.
My wife and I moved in together 20 years ago and have had joint accounts ever since. All I know is the mortgage is paid every month ant he credit card bill is paid off ever month. My business accounts are separate but she balances those as well. Sometimes it's nice to be married to an accountant. My father finds it amusing that the money he earned and collects in retirement is their money but my mom's retirement is her money.
