I have two twin half brothers who are 22 years old. One is majoring in Physical Therapy and the other in Chemistry. They each picked what they enjoy the most. $ was never an issue. That is what you need to do. Almost any "desk" job is not going to be enjoyable in the long run.

I am semi trapped in my job as the Controller (woot) of a manuf plant, since I am now a part owner (small part, but.....)...... I do NOT enjoy my job although it is easy and I play on this stupid website a fair amount of the day....

I am hoping to "retire" from this place in 5 years and go do something enjoyable no matter how little the pay. I am a people kind of person. I would love to be a waiter somewhere...haha... where I can act jerky to the customers....

Luckily i have some rental houses that support my spending habits which should be able to make all of this possible.

I do love working on cars as a hobby but I also do not want to end up hating them because of my job, after working on cars all day at work i usually do not feel like working on my own. i have deeply considered this route but i just csnt commit to it. I do think automotive classes would be pretty easy for me though. I have also though about law school and because I have always work with my hands I do not know if I could handle sitting behind a desk and shuffling papers.

My ideal job would be one that i love/like, makes good money (70k+), and has good job security, and is not the same boring crap day in day out.
You could do that as a professional mechanic, no problem...

I am currently, imployed by Costco. I install tires which is cool only because i work with automobiles all day long but, i am tired of getting dirty, hot, and physically exhuasted everyday, and well it is defintely not the most prestigious occupation out there. i am payed well for what i do but the pay is not nearly enough to buy a house and raise a family on, which is why i am going to school. I am having trouble deciding on a major primarly because I do not know what i truly would like to do for a living.

if you plan to buy a house in the SD area, I'm not sure if making less than $100K/year is going to cut it.
I don't know how these people afford the houses down there.

as far as major goes, I'd go for something in health care - there's gonna be demand as the baby boomers age. Your job can't be exported to another country either.

Honestly, while you are "trying to find yourself"......you might want to do the same job, but on a higher level. No-one likes to change tires on grandmas buick, but you might enjoy it a bit more if you were doing 911 turbos and Ferraris all day long. Look around, and see if any good performance shops are hiring. Maybe some custom wheels shops, etc.

As for my living, I have a Restaurant/Bar consulting company. I eat, hire, fire, train, analyze, etc all aspects of that world. Not something everyone can do, but I certainly dont complain.

these are the types of jobs I want to hear about. I wan tot do something "different" then the avg. joe. something interesting and fun.

I am not looking for any quick answer to my lifelong destiny, I just would like to hear what jobs people have that make them happy. i always like to get opinions and ideas from others who have more/different life experiences than i do. it helps me grow and learn.

Very few people get to do what they love, and still make tons of money doing it. That's why I seperate the two. I work really hard, no matter no hard or low the job is...but when it comes time to play, I play REAL hard. Go for the money, and when you get off work, enjoy it.

If you're materialistic like me, it'll work.

Good luck, also it gets harder as you get older. The younger you are, the more you can bounce around with life.

i know there probably have been some posts similar to this one in the recent past, but this one is mine, so please no flaming.

Anyways, I am interested to see what occupations people have that they actually enjoy. thanks for any positive input in advance.
haha don't feel bad. I work at costco as well but I'm "member service" aka I stand at the door all day checking peoples IDs or reciepts....talk about BORING!

Oh well, its only a seasonal job, I go back to school pretty soon so in the end I can actually be at a job I like.

what is it that you do?

i am materialistic. but i am also realize that there are a few jobs out there that pay well and people actually enjoy. For example my girlfriends grandfather started a company that develpoed and distributed emergency 911 dispatch equipment, he made an ass load of money hired all of his kids after college, who now all also have an ass load of money.

Ass loads of money + saving peoples lives= rewarding.

i do not want an easy job, i want a well paying rewarding one. i know there a few of these out there and you only live once so why not have a job you are proud of.
