so u want to discover the cure for cancer, or help the starving millions. is that what u mean by rewarding? do u want to be remembered as being a leader in your field?

or do u just want to get paid, so then u can buy what u want, not have to worry about bills, feel financially secure, go take a holiday when u want, where u want?

it seems that unless ur an entertainer, athlete, or have a great idea/ product, then u might find it tough, especially being a wage slave.

hell, i sell noodles for a living, but its my business(es), its nto that rewarding, its pretty easy, i have to deal with moron customers, but i get paid ok, i get to go on holidays. i have all the material things that i would want, even though i no longer am driven by materialism. i was when i was younger, but i found out that having the best of whatever is stupid.

life aint easy.

i got the exhaust 2nd hand off another owner for less than half the cost of new. all my parts were from people that bought them new, i took advantage of their "stupidity".
i was once like that, i wanted the newest and best. nowadays i can wait
thats why i havent upgraded my car, im happy with what i have and no longer feel the need to keep up with the joneses

I make between 6.15 and 20 dollars an hour at my job (car wash) which is to pay all my bills while I go through school. I am basically in the direct line of fire for weather (hot, cold, rain, snow etc.) but I do enjoy taking peoples cars and making it look nice for them. I wouldnt exactly say I love my job due to the weather but I do feel satisfied at the end of the day because I know I did a great job and made a lot of people happier than they would have been with another detailer. That kind of satisfaction is worth all of the pain I suffer during and after work (fatigue etc.)

As far as your whole not knowing what you want to do, just think about what makes you the happiest and make it a career. For example I love selling things to people and seeing if I can get them to buy stuff, so thats why I chose marketing/sales. I graduate in 2 years then I am going back for an MBA.

what is it that you do?

i am materialistic. but i am also realize that there are a few jobs out there that pay well and people actually enjoy. For example my girlfriends grandfather started a company that develpoed and distributed emergency 911 dispatch equipment, he made an ass load of money hired all of his kids after college, who now all also have an ass load of money.

Ass loads of money + saving peoples lives= rewarding.

i do not want an easy job, i want a well paying rewarding one. i know there a few of these out there and you only live once so why not have a job you are proud of.
I'm geting into business/real estate development. That is what my passion is, next to retiring of course.

I come from a poor background, so to get to where I am, I had to make countless sacrifices. 14 hour days at work, and the stress to go with get old after a while. I feel like I gave up my youth for the bigger picture. It's a different story when your parents hand you their legacy (as mentioned above), although there's nothing wrong with it. I know people who've inherited money, but still worked hard all thier lives. As long as you get further than where you started, you've been somewhat productive with your life.

I know I will thats why I feel I can post something that could possibly help someone out. I have had the same work ethic since I began work at 15, thats why I have excelled at everything I do. I also have the intrinsic motivation to exceed expectations and advance faster than anyone at the 5 total places of work I have gone (5 different places, 6 different hirings in 5 years). The jobs I have quit are the jobs that have either taken me for granted (Best Buy, CVS, and Plantation Estates - a retirement home where I was a waiter). The unfortunate thing is that if you bust your ass at a job, the higher level employees will begin to reduce pay raises etc just because its expected of you to continue your level of production. The job that I have now (autobell car wash) is based on tips, almost like commissions. The money I make is 99% of the time reflected on the jobs I do. Also, I do not my personal life interfere with my working life - if you come into work pissed off about something don't show it to the customers who you are helping out. Your attitude is definately the biggest influence on satisfying a customer in the long run.

Basically my point is you need to identify your strengths and weaknesses and shape your ideal profession around that. I took this test for Best Buy once call the Strength Finder - bought the book and took the test for a program that Best Buy hosts for the elite members in the store (including sales officials, seniors, and supervisors). I took the test and found out my five strengths. Initially I thought it was going to be a bullshit test but the results actually made perfect sense. I cant remember all five but two of them (the ones that stood out the most) were futuristic and significance. Futuristic basically means that you plan everything around the future, which I do on a CONSTANT basis. Significance is like how it sounds as well you look to the true unbiased significance of something to figure out waht is important and how you should act based upon that. Take the test and figure out your five strengths.

yeah you may despise it at times, but can you honestly say you would want to do something else with your life and get the same satisfaction out of it (not concerning money etc.)

Man... I knew the feeling. I was 18 w/ a baby on the way. I got my Diploma from an adult school while working as a tool boy for a ship yard. Talk about getting dirty....

I would recommend joining the military (like what I did) I was able to learn ALOT, get money for school, and learn to help people. I also learn more about myself and my potential. I tried out ifor BUD/s a couple of time (Blew my knee out). I was able to go on some special assignments w/ Force Recon (AWESOME GUYS). IF I didn't bust my knee and back I'd still be there.

I went to school full time after military & worked two jobs. I stepped up my vocabulary, and I used some of my school money to buy a suit for Job interviews. Once I was able to begin taking classes to get me into the RN program I got a job! I quite school and was able to climb and jump jobs till I got to my position now. 3 years after the military I was able to Quadruple my pay! What I was able to learn in the military to this day drives me.

Now I'm looking to retire hopefully in my 40's. This all didn't come easy. I took alot of hits on my way up.....Made as much friends as I made enymies. But whatever vehicle you decide to take, school / military / whatever.....just remember why you posted this topic. Stay hungry and GET SOME!!!!!!!
