Damn thing looses several minutes every day

I have to go to the atomic clock sync site to correct it almost every day. I read an article about why computers are lousy time keepers, but the ones at work seem accurate .................why mine

You could install an NTP client that will automatically sync up to a server on the net whenever you're connected. They even automatically adjust for dodgy internal clocks.

All personal computers are the same - the reason your office units may be more accurate is because they are probably set up to pick up the time from the server upon domain connection.

Don't worry, your problem is by no means unique.

NTP is the way to go. Amazingly enough, if you are running Win2000 or better then you can specify an NTP server by using the net time /setsntp:<server> option. ( I am pretty sure that is the syntax) you can always use net time ? to get all of the options. Then just start the Windows Time service. From that point on you will always be N'Sync.

The two sources for time that I always use are:

tick.usno.navy.mil
tock.usno.navy.mil

They are both stratum 1 time servers sow you can't get much better then that.

Your BIOS/CMOS battery on your motherboard is almost dead. How old is your motherboard? I looks like a watch battery on the motherboard. Just go to radio shack and get a new one, or any place that sells watch batteries. You might loss the Hardware config. in your CMOS but you can auto detect it once you put the new one in.

Bought a new Pentium 4 machine, running Windows XP. Keeps much better time than my old ones did.
