While we're on the subject of Japanese food, is miso soup any good. I always see people ordering it at the sushi restaurants, but its ingredients dont seem to excite me. Then again, I shouldnt knock it til I've tried it.

Sushi is great! Many people just don't relaize that sushi does not automatically traslate to raw fish.

California, shrimp or spider rolls are all good places to start with. I like my sushi without the wasabi, though.

You might want to try a Philadelphia roll ( Philly cream cheese and smoked salmon). then perhaps an alaska roll which is salmon , avocado and cucumber. Then, next time try some spicy tuna rolls.
and don't forget to put a lil soy, ginger and wasabi on each bite.

YUM !

Try sashimi after you are done with sushi.

Drowning sushi in wasabi and soy sauce is also supposed to be insulting to the preparer and/or shows that you are a neophyte. If you leave bits of rice in the small bowl, you are doing it wrong.

Sushi can and should be eaten with the hands. Thumb and ringfinger on either side of the rice cake, index and middle finger holding the fish slice to the top.

Pick up, invert, swipe the meat portion in the soy/wasabi mixture and eat.

I thought you were supposed to eat a little bite of ginger between each piece of sushi.
