I'm guilty too I try to have a half empty soda can in the car so I can put out the cigarette in it without littering. I'm now in the search for an ashtray like I see in some rental cars that fit in the beverage holder with a flip lid, but can be removed any time. If I can find something that has a tight lid on it (so ashes don't spill out), that would be perfect since I could take it out and leave it on the floor or something when I have a soda in the car.

I am guilty. But did you know that you can up your resale value on your car by as much as $500 if you keep the ash tray new? Not to mention it looks like trash. I usually don't smoke at all in my car and never smoke inside my home. I smoke outside when at home and I only smoke with all the windows and the sunroof open on my new car (and on long trips), and it used to be only when I had the top down on my S. Smoke is a very NASTY habbit, and I'm sorry I adopted it, and mother nature is too!

first and foremost no smoking is allowed in my car.

now to my point...i hate riding in someone's car who is a smoker...esp if there are multiple smokers in the car...during the winter time they open up the windows while it's freezing and smoke and then stop...five mins later they do it all over again...it's annoying for none smokers...not to mention the fact of small open space in the car...you come out smelling like a chimney...i save smoking for open spaces not confined ones...it's really inconsiderate for others who don't smoke. i'll drive alone to follow a car of smokers for that single reason...i'd rather be comfortable.

i explain it to my friend this way...everyone has to fart...i just never do it around other people for common courteousy (sp?) same goes with smoking.

I am not going to beat the crap out of you guys that toss butts, but....

something to think about.

as an ex-motorcylcist i can tell you first hand how dangerous people throwing butts can be. i chose not to believe that someone would intentionally throw butts at open cars or motorcycles so i will tell you how bad accidental hits can hurt.

i had one very lucky incident, in particular. thank god i had my visor down because some clown in a big, raised f350 ford tossed his butt and it nailed my visor dead on. i hate to think what would have happened when i was going 70mph on the 405 if that had hit my face and/or eye.

honda offers an ashtray for our car. (get a hold of trevor and at handaaccessories) please, please, please consider buying and using it. if not for the environment, as others have pointed out, than for your fellow enthusiasts.

ps - while i'm on my soap box, i'll say this. i love this board and consider its members a great group of men and women. i hope that none of you ever has to witness someoe die of lung cancer (as i have). i for one would encourage you guys to quit. still, it's your body and your mind i can't tell you what to do.

I had a hole burned in the backseat of a car from a butt someone tossed. It came in my open drivers window and landed on the seat. I almost wrecked the car trying to get stopped so I could get it out.

This is one of those debates, that the two sides will unlikely see eye to eye. Attitudes have changed alot in the past years, from the point where you could smoke in a movie theatre, to the point where smoking is banned in many restaurants, and even bars. I'm respectfull of others that don't smoke, I NEVER throw out a butt if a bike or open top car is behind me. but the holier the thou attitude of some non smokers towards us just slays me. It almost seems as that we as smokers have no rights. Why not start a campaign against BO. or obnoxious behaviour, or off colour jokes. When I go out infront of my building to have a smoke, I sometimes get that "look" well I say, if you don't like it, you can leave, I have just as much right to sit here and smoke, then you do to sit here and chat. Just becasue I smoke doesn't make me a bad person, or a villian.
