Driving and cigarette smoking pet peeve
the difference is that second hand smoke causes cancer too.
everytime you smoke around it others you're endangering their lives. I don't recall BO or Off color jokes being the result of cancer. i don't think it should be done in confined, enclosed, public areas...out in the open like on the street doesn't bother me at all but i hate eating dinner and sitting next to a smoker. it's disgusting (obviously since i've never seen anyone smoke and eat simultaneously) and simply rude...smoke outside....that's my argument.

too much smoke from cigarette will make me feel dizzy... which I don't know why!! However, it is your business to smoke or not at your own private place..!! but, smoke in a public area is not a good idea...!! think of this!! having a party at your own home with loud music, that will make police come to you .... think as you are the one who wants to have a good sleep after a busy work week..!! then what do you think..!!
and as previous post, he is right~!!! (my opinion)

since my hat is already in the ring.
living in S. CA, i have what i belive to be an interesting perspective on this topic. you see, it is illegal to smoke in bars, restaurants, ball stadiums, airports, in fact any public place in CA. everytime i travel (all too frequently thanks to this stinkin' job) i realize how much this allows me to take for granted. it really does make a difference to those of us that don't smoke.
don't get me wrong. for you smokers, while i'll state this again, i hope you all quit for your own sakes, it is your right to smoke. i feel your pain a bit in that i have two co-workers who must leave their offices, go down 11 stories, and fully exit the building (out away from the entrances/exits) for them to exercise their rights to smoke. that kind of sucks, and i can see why they get bitter about it. still, if it saves even one life of someone who choses not to smoke, maybe it makes sense.
you guys that smoke are knowingly making a decision which is hazardous to your health. i liken it to riding a motorcycle in that you know its not the smartest thing to do, but for some reason you're addicted to it and don't want to give it up. you enjoy it, or whatever the case may be.
as far as flicking your butts out and littering, yes it is littering, i can see that this topic is getting heated. the fact is that it's no different than me throwing gum wrappers, tissues, or any other trash out my window. a decision to do so, in my opinion, is selfish in that you are chosing not to mess up the interior of your car and instead you mess up the area that we all share. i am not as militant as others here, but i think that if you sit back and think about it under these terms you would have to agree that it's not really right for you to do so.
the moral is... buy an ashtray. do what you want to yourselves. hell... enjoy it. i'd hate to have any of you die that way, but we're all gonna die some day and if you feel that this improves your life while you are here... more power to you. just keep in mind that this is one right which can and does influence those around you.

DaHappa,
I'm curious, In Toronto there is a big push to make bars non smoking, some have done so, others complain that they will lose business. Have you noticed any decline in numbers at the local bars, or the opposite?

Mindcore,
I used to work for a company based out of Toronto and used to travel there quitre a bit. I really hated the fact that you can smoke there while eating. I know some restaurants have a non-smoking sectuon, but come on get real, is some magical air wall suppose to keep the smoke from the smoking section from drifting over to the non somking section!!!!
I think the big fear for bars was that they were going to lose a lot of business. Initially, I think some of the business did decline, but since everywhere in CA is non-smoking, the business has leveled off and is probably back to normal. I think the key is to enforce the non-smoking regulation and just make it non-smoking everywhere for it to work.
By the way, I only had a pet peeve with people flicking ashes and butts out the window/sunroof. I just think people that do this are pretty inconsiderate, especially if you're getting all that ash on my clean S2K.
